Meet Zaina, a sweet and adventurous 65 lb, 1-2 year old German shepherd mix with the cutest curly Q tail. She was rescued from a high-kill shelter in California where she was next on their euthanasia list. Thanks to a wonderful foster, we were able to get her up to Oregon and she is loving home life!
She is a total love bug who will want to be close to you once she warms up to you. She is shy and cautious at first. She loves to play with her foster sister and shows no aggression or territorial behaviors. They can easily eat out of the same bowl at the same time and share space comfortably. She has great off-leash recall. She is housebroken and does great when left home alone.
As a German shepherd mix, she has medium to high energy and will thrive with exercise and good leadership. If you're active and enjoy the outdoors, she would make the perfect partner!
Zaina is very obedient and just wants to please you. She is food motivated but usually prefers the praise and pets over treats. She has a strong prey drive and while she has not been tested with cats, a home without cats is probably for the best. While she can be gentle in her play style, she is a big dog which might be overwhelming to smaller playmates. She loves to play, so a playful resident dog or friends would make her very happy. She does have leash reactivity towards dogs and people (barks and pulls when she sees them on walks) but we are working on this with her with a trainer. She would benefit from continued training.
Zaina is an adventure dog and would love to find a home with a nice-sized yard or someone who camps and hikes frequently. She likes to protect her people and is incredibly loyal. She wants nothing more than to be your best friend, make you happy, and go on adventures with you!
She is currently being fostered in Portland, OR. Since she is not yet spayed, she can be adopted out on a spay contract. She is microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccinations!
