Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Cooper von Christes is a stunning, 2-3 year old, long-hair German Shepherd mix. This striking and elegant guy, with a calm and quiet energy, enjoys nothing more than hanging out with his favorite people. A perfect day for him would be sitting in the backyard, enjoying the cool breeze, getting some gentle pets and munching on some yummy treats. He's well housetrained, polite and knows sit and down perfectly. He enjoys walks where he can sniff and take in information, is great on the leash and enjoys play groups where he meets dogs well and mostly mingles with the others. He would do best with a knowledgeable, experienced owner who has a calm and confident demeanor - one who is self-assured but gentle, intelligent, not forceful and who will establish a relationship based on mutual trust and respect. Cooper would love a quiet, simple life without cats or small dogs. Cooper is waiting to meet you!

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
