My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Malcolm von Malberg is a beautiful 2 year old German Shepherd. This calm and gentle boy is about as sweet as they come. With a wonderful medium-energy level, Malcom enjoys his walks. He’s happy to stroll in a heel position and loves meeting people and dogs along the way. He has been working on his commands (he has “sit” down to a science!), and he’ll always enjoy some petting or fluff brushing as a well-deserved reward. In his playgroups, Malcom is a calm boy who enjoys greeting all of the pups as they arrive. He avoids problems and checks in with his humans between bouts of exploration. If Malcom sounds like your kind of guy, he would love to meet you!

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
