My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Adelaide, and I am IN LOS ANGELES looking for my forever home! I was rescued from the dog meat trade in South Korea by the DoVE Project. My fate would have been to live in fear and distress, watching dogs being led to slaughter for human consumption. DoVE Project heard about me, and now I am looking for my forever family!
More about me

BREED: Jindo mix
AGE: 2 year 2 month (DOB 6/2/20).
WEIGHT: About 35 pounds
HEALTH: Up to date with all my shots and spayed
BEHAVIOR: Cautious with some humans and friendly with dogs; quiet, timid, smart. Adelaide is very independent and does not express affection physically. However, as is common with most Jindos, she is extremely polite and respectful.
BACKGROUND: I was rescued from a dog meat farm in Gyegangsan and then transferred to a temporary shelter with all of my friends. I have a unique spotted marking on one leg and the cutest airplane ears. I am part of the Blackpink group. Adelaide was adopted in 2021. Unfortunately, due to changes in the adopter's life, they are unable to give Adelaide the life she deserves. They will continue to keep her until she finds a new home.

The adopter says of this beautiful girl:
Adelaide is your average Jindo. She constantly gets compliments from strangers. Gorgeous brown/red coat. Big eyes and goofy grin. She loves playing with other dogs, typically her size or larger. She"s choosy when it comes to playmates. Never aggressive, but just keeps her distance or just goes elsewhere. She has lots of energy but is very reserved in the home. 100% house trained. Never destroyed a thing and has all four paws on the ground at all times. Doesn't mind being picked up or held but she will let you know when she wants down. That being said, she rarely jumps. If loading her into a car or anything too high and you will probably pick her up.Very much like a cat in attitude. Too much attention and she'll readjust and move. Does well with strangers in the home but each new person needs a bit of time for her to adjust to their presence. She will need help to get over her fear of random specific stationary items. Loves treats, but if given too many, she will for sure not eat dinner. She knows her limits and unless it's meat-based she only eats when she feels like it. Not a fan of rain or the beach but doesn't do bad at bath time. She gets a little worried, but it's probably just more that she hates being wet. She's really good about standing there and getting soaped up. I think she has a bit of sass and can usually give a side-eye on cue; it's pretty cute when it happens.

ABOUT JINDOS
Jindos are known for their fierce loyalty, high intelligence, rarely barking, and playful nature. They make great indoor family dogs, as Jindos are clean and easily housetrained, and are faithful to family members. They are also mid-level active and love being socialized at dog parks, going on hikes, and joining the family on trips.

ABOUT SHELTER STRESS
Dogs who have lived in shelters for a long period of time develop behaviors due to an environment that is loud, chaotic, and stressful, even in best shelters in the US. Dogs in shelters have limited socialization exposure to people and urban environments. DoVE dogs also come from a traumatic background such as dog meat farms and slaughterhouses. While many of our dogs acclimate within a few months with consistency, structure, and patience, some of our more sensitive dogs can take longer to rehabilitate. It's important to note that these sensitive dogs are even more attuned to human emotions and behavior, making for a deeper connection human-dog connection. DoVE Project is committed to helping our adopters desensitize and socialize our dog meat trade survivors.

*********************************
DoVE Project operates a shelter in South Korea, where our dogs stay until they are matched with an adopter. In the US, our dogs stay in foster homes or in boarding, as we do not have a physical facility. These dogs are identified with "in LA" in their names.

Please note that we only adopt our pups in the Southern California area. Please check our website for more information regarding our adoption process, our mission, and adoption application: https://www.dove-project.org/adoption-process
