My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, my name is ENYA,
I am about 4 yrs. old, Australian shepherd/Samoyed/Retriever mix. I weigh about 45 lbs, I am microchipped, spayed and up to date with shots.
My breed is a mix of Australian shepherd and Samoyed, and I am fostered by the Founder of AnimalDefense Rescue.org [ADR.org] on Orcas Island, WA.
I was rescued from a "hoarding case" in CA where about thirty dogs looking like me were seized.
My new friends here on Orcas Island (dogs and cats) have helped me, and I love to be with other dogs. I do know my pack, but to get to know a human will take time and while I have made huge progress, I still must feel more comfortable with leashes or harnesses.
Once she is attached to the new person/adopter she feels very confident and will follow your commands.
ADR.org would like to see her at home.
-with an experienced dog owner that will go all the way with me: an additional dog or dogs will help me settle in for sure.
- that perseveres with patience, but as the same time is displaying authority so she respects you as leader and feels safe
- a home without young children or toddlers as this might overwhelm her
- a fenced property (ENYA is not a city dog and/or apartment/high rise building dog)
If you are interested in seeing videos, and learning more about me, and meeting me, the first step would be to send an email to: ADR@animaldefenserescue.org, add some photos and tell me a little bit about you.
ADR.org will then have a longer phone call with to get to know you.
Cheers and big WOOFS from Orcas Island!

Additional adoption info

Adopters will request an application by sending an email to : ADR@animalDefenserescue.org

Each prospective owner fills out an adoption application. All applicants must live in WA (exceptions are possible), and we ask that children in your home are at least ten years old. We usually have limited information of history of our rescue dogs and are therefore very careful about placing them in households with children.
We require that everyone in the immediate family, including your current dog (if you have one) come to the appointment to meet your potential new dog. Adopting a dog is a big family decision and requires a commitment from everyone.
At the appointment, we will help you assess whether the dog is a good match for you and family or not.

Before you bring your new dog home, you must sign an Adoption agreement with Animal Defense Rescue. In addition, a $ 375$ adoption fee is requested. The adoption donation is non-refundable.
Please remember that adoption contributions barely cover our expenses and only defray the costs. Additional donations are greatly appreciated and will help us continue our life-saving work.
Step 4: Post Adoption Follow Up
Our goal is to help you enjoy life with your new dog to the fullest extent possible. If issues arise, or you just need some good advice, we are happy to do follow-up counseling by telephone or in person. We can also suggest local dog trainers.

More about this rescue

AnimalDefense Rescue is a small non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing primarily dogs from high-kill shelters in mostly CA, as well as homeless, lost and abandoned animals in WA , and rehoming from owners who can no longer care for them for important reasons. By building and working with the rescued dogs at her home, the founder and president assures asessment, training and rehabilitation . ADR.org works with local veterinarians to make sure future adoption homes will have a clean and complete health record for the adopted dog, ADR.org finds well-matched, and carefully screened adopters and adoption homes to ensure the dog will NEVER be returned to a shelter again in his lifetime.
AnimalDefense Rescue will serve as a resource to pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training, and good nutrition.
