Here's what the humans have to say about me:
COURTESY POST - Portland, Maine - owners contact info is at the bottom of the bio
QUEENIE is a beautiful 3.5 year old red merle with a tail and gorgeous blue eyes. She is completely deaf per the vets, but appears to have at least 25% vision, possibly more. She uses what vision she has plus smell to navigate very well, with almost no need for guidance or accommodation from her humans. She is a very independent girl!
Queenie is in great health and up to date on all vaccinations and is microchipped, though she’s still working on shedding some pounds acquired in a previous home. She loves people and greets them sweetly, both away from home and at home when visitors are arriving. She’s a very easy keeper. She loves walks and is great on leash, no jumping or pulling or excess energy. She only barks when she’s communicating with you about needing to go outside or wondering where you are in the house.
Queenie is crate trained but she is completely non-destructive when left alone, and housebroken. She’s very much a nanny-type dog-- she likes to patrol and keep tabs on her people, and she’ll shepherd you to bed at night.
Queenie can live with other dog(s) who are mellow and give her space, though she would be delighted to be an only dog. Pushy dogs need not apply! She does like some peace and quiet when eating so a dish off away from other dogs would be best.
Like many sight or hearing impaired dogs, she finds jostling and unexpected contact upsetting sometimes, which can lead to a brief flurry of barking and nipping toward the other dog. For this reason we don’t feel 100% confident suggesting she live with younger children.
Despite her hearing and vision loss she has a very high prey drive toward cats and cannot live with them. This is the main obstacle with remaining in her current home where we have worked on resolving this for six months since we adopted her, but without success.
Some of her favorite things include rope toys, car rides, belly rubs, and naps. This girl adores car rides and is such a great companion when you’re out and about in a car.
Queenie is in Portland, Maine. For more information or to schedule a meet-and-greet, please contact Sara at groves.sm@gmail.com
There is a $150 rehoming fee to assure good folks with good intentions. That fee will be sent to Australian Shepherds Furever rescue for their assistance in placing this dog.
