My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet TJ!

Hey y'all, my name is TJ and I come to you from one of the "dirty dozen" puppy mills all the way in Missouri. I'm about 11 years old and weigh around 10 pounds. After spending all of my years in an outdoor chicken coop type cage with a heat lamp, I'd say this house thing is pretty luxurious! I love a good dog bed to snuggle into. I've come a long way since I was first rescued. I do very well with all other dogs and cats. I can be afraid of new people, so I tend to hide when new people come over. Rumor has it I did really well when my foster mom’s sister stayed the night. It wasn’t that scary, so definitely improvement in that area! I would do best in a home with older children because little ones just make me too nervous.

I’ve learned to enjoy the occasional toy or bone. Walks are a bit overwhelming for me because being on a leash is a new concept for me. I still need some work with house-training, but a belly band takes care of the issue with ease! I do enjoy exploring the backyard and going outside in a fenced in area. I very much enjoy my foster mom when she has treats and offers me pets. I do like to snuggle into the bed with her in the morning if she’s taking too long to wake up. I will need time, patience and understanding to help me decompress in my new home. While I enjoy time spent in her bedroom, I still haven’t understood the concept of snuggling on the couch just yet. Some things just take time!

Disclaimer: It is VERY difficult even for a veterinarian to tell the exact age of a dog over two years old. From one vet to another, we can get different age estimates on the same dog and they can vary by several years. We are only making an educated guess based on a few factors like teeth, fur color, and overall body condition, but for dogs who have not been given adequate vet care and food, it can be even more difficult. Every dog is an individual, and we do our very best to age appropriately but make no guarantees as to the age of any dog in our program.
