She is a happy, bouncy, sweet pup with a true zest for life!
Originally gifted to an 86 year old Grandma who didn’t want an 8 week old puppy, she was dropped off at a cat rescue malnourished, covered in fleas with bald spots and a whole body full of scabs. The only things she knew were her name and that going potty was ‘bad’. The cat rescue turned her over to us.
We were told that Mom was a lab and Dad was a small breed mix.
Goofy, sweet, bouncy Roo is now living very peacefully with 5 other dogs in her foster home as well as 4 kitties (2 of whom are blind) and a few turtles. She absolutely loves playing with other pups and has been around dogs ranging in age from 1 to 14 and learned to respond appropriately to each of their play styles/ needs.
She has been brought up to date on vaccines, the fleas are gone, her scabs have healed, she is putting on weight and now has a gorgeous, soft, shiny black and white coat. She has also already been spayed.
We believe that Roo may be a lab/ boston terrier or Frenchie mix based on her smaller size, shorter stature and general appearance. She currently weighs about 33 lbs at almost 7 months old so she will maybe be around 45-50 lbs when full grown. But she's also on the smaller side (short but muscular from spending time playing with all of her doggy buddies).
Roo is doing excellent with her potty training and is also quickly learning basic house manners and behaviors!
She already knows “No, Get Down ( working on traditional down- she’s not a fan), Sit, Wait, Outside, Potty, Not Yours, Leave It, Come, Bedtime (to go in her crate). Also plays fetch (‘Get it’ and ‘Bring It’. )
Roo might be a bit bouncy for smaller kids, but older kids (ages 8 and up), teens and adults she does great with! (She can sometimes jump 3 feet in the air when she gets super excited.) But she waits calmly for her meals and does very well going potty outside as long as she is taken out on a schedule.
She is sweet and cuddly and LOVES giving kisses!
Roo hardly ever tries to chew on inappropriate things when there are lots of toys around and is easily redirected when she does- rarely returning to something once she's told no. (The only thing she ever needed a ‘no’ on more than once was a large houseplant that was just soooo appealing.)
A fenced in yard would be a plus but is not required to adopt this sweety IF you have a very solid plan in mind to keep this girl active and busy. (A walk or two around the block every day will likely **not** be enough to keep her happy and healthy.) You’ll need to be on your toes, also, since this girl will not let the squirrels get away with **anything** when she’s around.
Apartments/townhouses may work, depending on the type, size and location but please keep in mind that Roo can be a higher-energy pup. She also has a tendency to bark very loudly during play or when she sees/ hears someone outside.
Living situations that come with breed, size or noise restrictions will not work for Roo since we ultimately have no way of knowing how big she may end up being and she can be a bit ‘barky’ at times. Her general appearance may also trigger any local breed bans that specifically mention Bully Breed dogs.
An active family who loves to spend time with and train their dogs (and who may enjoy participating in agility, herding, scent work, camping, hiking or other dog-inclusive sports) will have a wonderful time with Roo!
HDDCR requires a spay/neuter contract by the adopter if puppies and kittens in our care are too young for sterilization. This is a form the adopter signs at the time of adoption, confirming that they will get the pet spayed/neutered by a certain date. We will hold a $50 deposit on top of the adoption fee until we receive proof from a veterinarian that the dog was spayed/neutered. The $50 deposit will then be returned to the adopter.​Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The microchips are registered to Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. The adopter's information is added once the adoption is complete. The adopter is responsible for a $19.99/Year registration fee or a $45.00/Lifetime registration fee to change information. Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost.
