My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Brie!

Hi There, I’m Brie, yep just like the fine cheese - soft, white and just the right age. I’m 8 years old and just 8 pounds, and would you believe I am a Bichon? Yes, it's true! I am a bit shaved down right now, but it was a small price to pay to gain my freedom from the puppy mill where I lived all my life. Now, for the first time in my life I am being loved for just being me!

Foster mom said I am really a smart girl. It took me just one day to figure out how to navigate the back steps to go outside, getting on and off the sofa and after hearing the vacuum the first time around, I already ignore it. For never being exposed to these things before, that is really good! New sounds and movements will still spook me until I know what to expect though.

I am foster mom's shadow, but just the right amount of a shadow. I like to be around her, follow her or have her in my line of vision, or sit beside her but I'm not clingy or needy. More like an independent shadow. As I'm learning all the things about being in a house now, like going outside to potty, and coming when called, foster mom makes sure to tell what a good girl I am! I get along well with other dogs that are calm and friendly towards me. I could do fine with patient, older kids 10 and up, but young ones might scare me or hurt me since I am just a little thing, so I might not do well living with them.

I’m just starting to figure out dog beds, but I would rather be next to someone wherever they are. I have yet to play with toys, but that’s all new to me too! If my new family has a fenced yard, that would be awesome, but as long as my new family has patience to work with me and teach me things aren’t so scary afterall, I wouldn't have to have one and could get used to a tie out too, but you I'd still need you outside with me. Leashes are new to me, so I would definitely need some patience when it comes to that. Living in a single family dwelling would be best for me, since I've found my voice and would hate to disturb other people. I sure hope my new family will love me and adore me and want me for who I am. I promise to learn to trust and love them right back, once I fully come out of my shell. Do you have just a little space, and alot of love and patience to give a tiny girl like myself?

Disclaimer: It is VERY difficult even for a veterinarian to tell the exact age of a dog over two years old. From one vet to another, we can get different age estimates on the same dog and they can vary by several years. We are only making an educated guess based on a few factors like teeth, fur color, and overall body condition, but for dogs who have not been given adequate vet care and food, it can be even more difficult. Every dog is an individual, and we do our very best to age appropriately but make no guarantees as to the age of any dog in our program.
