My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

***Rescued, Let Down, and Ready for Adoption!*** Takoda was rescued from a local racetrack. When we found him he was literally a bag of bones, having been starved half to death. His trainer lost her rights at the track and was calling the kill buyers when a rescue jumped in and helped us save him.

Takoda is a 6 year old thoroughbred gelding, 16 3/4hh, bay with a small white star and a single white sock. He was rescued in Feb. 2009 and is now fully let down and has even learned some ground manners since being here. He is now fattened up quite a bit and has no health issues, and is on no supplements. He was barefoot all spring and summer, but due to the extraordinarily wet spring and fall we have had this year, his front shoes had to be put back on in November, but our farrier assures us he can have them removed again in January once the ground is not a gooey mess.

Takoda is up to date on all vaccines and de-wormer. We are looking for a new home for him where he will be a pet with a new job - he is NOT available for racing! He has become an integral member of our small herd and our family, so we will be very picky where he goes, and we are looking for a forever home for him with a family with the means and/or experience to retrain him to be a fabulous riding horse. He came to us with absolutely no ground manners, kicking out and biting anyone and everything, but he now stands for the farrier and the vet, walks nicely on the lead, has learned to lunge both directions (though he sometimes pretends he has forgotten how). Our children are able to groom him and feed him with no displays of nipping or kicking whatsoever. We are only rehoming him because he is bored and really wants a job but we lack the expertise to retrain him under saddle. We are in no hurry to rehome him and his new family will commit to being a forever home and give us first right of refusal if they ever cannot keep him. Interested adopters please contact Beata (301) 219-2159 or email MJsAnimalSanctuary@gmail.com

Takoda is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.
