My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say hello to Chive!

Chive is a 3 year-old Pitbull mix who weighs 50 lbs! Chive can be sensitive at first, but she warms up very quickly and just wants to sit in your lap and cuddle. She is the perfect combo of energetic and laid back- she will cladly go for a long walk outside and then spend the rest of her afternoon snoozing on the couch.

She is a true cuddle bug once she gets to know you, all she wants to do is be by your side and give you loads of affection. Chive shows potential with certain dogs, but she will need a slow introduction to new dogs as she can be very excitable.

Since she loves her people so much, she wouldn't mind being the only queen in the castle either. Since she is a sensitive girl at first, if there are children in her forever home they need to be ages 10-13 and older.

If Chive sounds like she might be a good fit give us a call at: 330-487-0333 ext.226 to learn more about her and schedule a time to come in and meet!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All of our adoptable animals are up-to-date on all age appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, de-wormed, de-flea and microchipped before adoptions are finalized. All dogs over six months of age receive a temperament assessment by our Certified Professional Dog Trainer to ensure appropriate placement. Also, many animals in our care receive basic obedience training to improve manners and increase adoptability.

We are currently doing adoptions by appointment only. Please contact us by phone at (234) 212-9843 or email at adoptions@summithumane.org, and an adoption counselor will return your message. They will review our adoption process, answer any questions, and tell you more about the animals currently available for adoption at our shelter and in our foster program. If we have a match for you and your family, an appointment will be scheduled to meet the animal.

Additional questions can be directed to our adoption team at (234) 212-9843.

Since 1968, the Humane Society of Summit County (HSSC) has been the trusted caretaker and advocate for Summit County’s victims of animal abuse, neglect, and abandonment and stray animals suffering from illness and injury. We employ two full-time Humane Officers who respond to emergency calls, investigate animal cruelty, and, as warranted, prosecute offenders.
