My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I’m Chaucer, but everyone calls me Doodle! I’ve been at RCHS before, but that was no fault of mine! I’m ready to find my perfect forever home! I am a year old, approximately 45lbs, and the coolest dog EVER. I have a super distinct ‘heart-nose’ and only three legs, but a big personality and so much love to give!

Even though I only have three legs, that does not slow me down at all. I’ve adapted very well since my amputation (11/23/2022) and there hasn’t been a single issue since. A slight gap between my bones was found due to improper development in that specific leg [all three other legs are strong and cleared!] and after the vets, my foster, and RCHS volunteers had a discussion, it was decided that amputation was the best option because of how much I love to play and have fun!

I love spending time outdoors and going on adventures, I can keep up - as long as you can! Honestly, I don’t even notice I’m missing a leg, I’ve gotten great at running around and am my normal self. I’m an active dog that would love to be with an active person/family. I’m even ‘car trained’! I go just about everywhere with my foster mom and I'm very well behaved, but I still am a high energy pup and get excited at first, but I will snap back into focus very quickly. I’ve gone to stores, the horse farm, college events, downtown, executive meetings, rodeo-team practices, and even a rodeo with my foster mom, where I stayed napping quietly at the trailer most of the day while she raced! I am a bit spoiled and have a stroller-wagon that I love going on “walks” in, too.

My foster mom values obedience and training a lot and I’ve gotten SO good at it! She said I'm one of the quickest learning puppies she’s ever worked with - I think I'm quite impressive! I'm leash, crate, and car trained. I know all of my basic commands vocally and by hand and I’m even learning some cool tricks! Before I lost a leg, I was learning agility and absolutely loved it, I think I’d like to continue learning some of the lower impact aspects of it! Even though I am still young, I'm respectful and loyal and I’ll only get better. I am not a fan of getting baths or getting my teeth brushed, but I know it’s for the best, so I sit and deal with it.. with puppy eyes, of course.

I am one unique dog and there’s nothing that can stand in my way! I will be your best friend every step of the way as long as you let me tag along. Everyone at the rescue, my foster home, and all the friends I’ve met love me so much and I can’t wait to keep meeting more fur-ever friends and a family!
