10/16/2022 - Bobcat

Bobcat is 2 years old.

She is an incredibly intelligent, active dog that loves to play and hates to be alone. Extremely sweet and loving with the people that she knows and trusts. Also extremely skeptical of strangers, both dogs and humans. She can be successfully introduced to new people with if they are told to completely ignore her at first so that she has time to sniff them and investigate on her own terms. I have not figured out a way to introduce her properly to dogs, as she acts overly excited initially, but typically growls and barks when walking by or seeing another dog, and if she meets another dog, her typical response is to lunge and bark/nip at them. Off leash she has better success, but does not like dogs that jump all over her. Little dogs she doesn’t seem to mind as much, acts somewhat indifferent to them.

She is crate trained, but sometimes whines after being left alone (especially in a new place) for the first 10 minutes or so, then settles down. Very routine oriented. She’s totally food motivated, and is very attentive when there are treats involved - a very useful training tool. Loves to play “tug”, and knows the “Out” command. Is not resource aggressive - except with bones, then I practice “Leave it” with her and if/when she obeys, I will give her back the thing to show her that she doesn’t need to guard it. She is obedient, and knows “Sit”, “Lay down”, “Wait”, “Crate”, and is working on “Heel” and “Place”. She can be stubborn but if you stand your ground, she will listen to you if she knows she has to. She waits politely for her food when asked to wait, and will leave it mid-meal if asked to do so. She is house trained, but in a new place or a building where other pets live, she should be kept under watch or on leash so that she doesn’t pee. This sweet girl needs the right environment and training to thrive - and a lot of exercise! She is a great running and hiking buddy - is very agile and a great rock scrambler. As per her breed, when she’s bored, she wants to chew on things - give her a toy she likes or some cardboard or a stick to shred and she’s happy as a clam.
