My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello people, I’m Lily and I am so happy to be out here meeting you! See, I was a garage-dog before a family took me in and, boy, am I a house-dog now! I’ve left behind that garage life for good and I’m looking for a permanent home where I can be a house-dog for life!

There is so much I’ve learned these last few months! I was a loner before, but now I’m learning how to meet and play with other dogs! I can be a bit pushy but once they know I’m the boss, we get along fine! Everyone thinks I’ll get better the more dogs I meet, but, so far, the bossy thing seems to be working out fine for me! I’ve learned what furniture is, and that I should stay off it (if you disagree, I am happy to unlearn that last part!). But most importantly, I’ve learned about people! This has been life changing! I’ve learned about kids (I LOVE them!) and snuggles (I LOVE them too!) and how amazing it is to live in a house with people that pet me and love me and tell me I’m the goodest girl! I get brushed every week now with this thing called a furminator! I love that too – who knew houses had all this great stuff?!

I never knew how great life could be and I’m so lucky to have found out! I may love being with people a little too much – I get a little separation anxiety when I’m alone now. I might pace or even whine for a few minutes when I’m left alone. At first I howled, but I was told that’s not proper Lab behavior so I am working to cut that right out! I’m getting better about dealing with my anxiety though. Now, I go find a stuffie and carry it around when I’m feeling anxious. I heard this is called “self-soothing” and I think that makes me sound very mature, even when I have a toy in my mouth! I think, between my self-soothing and my growing confidence that the people will come back, I’ll grow out of my whining too.

What else do you need to know about me? I’m a smiler! I will greet you with a smile every time I see you – even if its because you left the room for a minute! I am happy, playful, and I really love food! All food! I will lie on my bed while you eat instead of begging, though! See – mature! I love going swimming and going for walks too! I love seeing and smelling the world and will even go for runs with you. If you have a leash, I’m there! And I love toys – stuffed toys with squeakers are amazing (yes, I will remove every squeaker I find; I hear that is appropriate Lab behavior though)! Mostly I love people! I love snuggling, following you around the house, getting rub downs, and playing fetch (I am great about bringing the ball back! Not so great about dropping it for you to throw again). I just love people so much! Not cats though – I chase them and squirrels. I’m not really sure what the difference is between a cat and a squirrel is and I don’t want either in my house.

Are you looking for someone who is excited every time she sees you, who always wants to be with you, and who never stops smiling when you look at her? That’s me! I’m hoping to find a family that can spend time with me, take me for walks, and keep introducing me to the world outside the garage! Let’s meet! I’ll bring my stuffie, you should bring an extra ball.
