My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. If you elect to contact us via e-mail it may take several weeks for us to get back to you. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. Please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption.

Feona is a sweet 3-4 month old German Shepherd X who currently weighs 21# and thrives on being held and cuddled. She will grow to the upper end of mid-size or lower end of large breed. We are relying on visual breed identification and the dominant breeds in the area she came from are shepherds and herding dogs but, DNA testing often shows 20 or more breeds in the mix. We call it hybrid vigor. She loves to be held and cuddled, go for short or long walks and play with her buddies. She can sometimes play too hard for the 5 pounder she is living with and we think she would be best paired with a dog closer to her size. Feona loves people and she wants to be engaged with you and your life. She is more mouthy than average. She has learned not to do this with her foster but she seems to need to try it out on all new people, so we recommend that she not go to a home with young children who will not be amused. The ideal adopter will be a kind and gentle person who has time to spend with their dog and really wants to hang out with pup. She will not respond well to harsh or aggressive treatment

Feona is off to a good start on house breaking but she has not yet earned run of the house. She is crated at night and is quiet and happy there. During the work day she is crated but is taken out at about the 4-5 hour mark. She walks nicely on leash but sometimes plays with her leash and thinks it is a ‘smell’ rather than a ‘walk’. She gets along well with other dogs and would really love to join a multi-dog home.

The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog.

Feona has been wormed and had routine vaccinations including rabies. The $350 adoption fee (check or cash) includes the cost of pup’s required spay/neuter at 6 months of age provided it is done by one of the PUP vets. We do place puppies outside the metro area but a plan for the required spay/neuter must be in place. We do not ship.
