My story

Fred landed at animal control in Alabama as a stray (another story of an unwanted pup and it’s a high kill place). We are so very grateful to the shelter angels who got him out of there and got him to the shelter. When we posted him for a foster a wonderful family stepped up. He’s now in Illinois, vetted (age appropriate) and is now ready to find his forever family. Here’s his bio from his foster family.

Fred is doing a great job socializing with everyone. He loves to play with his foster brother and sister, and absolutely adores children. On walks he wants to interact with every family we pass by, and he hates when they have to leave. Our walks tend to take awhile because everyone seems to want to come say hi to this guy! He will be an absolutely amazing companion for kids and adults alike. He’s a moderately energetic pup, wanting to play chase and wrestle for short bouts and then happily turning into a snuggly couch potato.
Fred is also great on a leash. He is easy to control and isn’t very reactive. We know from experience that even a nine year old can easily handle him! He is always up for a good walk. Oftentimes he will grab part of the leash in his mouth and prance down the trail, super proud to be walking himself! He is also very smart and is learning basic commands quickly, like sit, touch, leave it, stay, and come. He is very food motivated and wants to please, so I think he’ll be extremely obedient with consistency and practice.
Fred is also making great strides with potty training. There are very few accidents at this point, but he still needs to be taken out approximately every hour or two just to give him as many opportunities as possible to reinforce his good habits.
When it comes to the crate, Fred needs a lot more practice. He hates being separated from his people, but will tolerate it at night when the crate is in the same room as someone. He gets his meals in the crate to prevent any possible conflict with his foster siblings and to make positive associations with it, but it will take some patience as he works on becoming accustomed to it and seeing it as a safe place.
Fred has also figured out that he’s big enough to get his front paws up on tables and countertops, so it will be important that food or other no-no’s are kept out of reach. He will definitely be checking frequently to see if anyone has left any treats for him up there!
He will make an excellent addition to any family (however he cannot be left for long periods of time, as it will undo his house training and socialization). If Fred sounds he’d make a great addition to your home, please visit the rescue website www.foreverhomedogrescueil.org for requirements, process and applications.

WE DO NOT DO OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS
Thank you for considering the adoption of one of our rescue dogs. We are committed to finding our rescues the perfect home. Together we can make a difference in the life of a dog.

The adoption process should be a fun and exciting time for families and dogs. Our goal is to place our babies in forever homes. The potential adopter needs to be dedicated to their care and training for life.
Understand that sharing your life with a dog can be a commitment of 15+ years. This would include feeding, exercise, training, vetting, and providing a loving home. Ask yourself, "Am I ready for this type of commitment?" If you are ready, we are here to help. We do have some requirements to help us find the perfect placement of our babies.

WE ARE A FOSTER BASED RESCUE ONLY. WE DO NOT HAVE A PHYSICAL BUILDING
1. Apply online at https://www.foreverhomedogrescueil.org
We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family (including other dogs) to approve an adoption. Only a final approval for adoption can take place after a successful meet and greet. This is done by appointments only. We will not proceed with the adoption if everyone has not met the dog. This will allow others the opportunity to adopt the dog.
2. Adopters MUST be 25 years old.
Information on all adults/members living in the home is required
We REQUIRE you to provide proof and vet reference that all current and past pets have been kept up to date on all routine medical.
3. Illinois law requires that all of our dogs and puppies be spayed/neutered within 30 days of adoption. In order to fully comply with this regulation and reduce the number of homeless dogs and puppies,
4. If you do not own your home, you must provide landlord contact information on the application and a copy of your lease that outlines the rules for dog ownership in your residence.
Large breed dogs will not be adopted into apartment settings or where there are breed/ size restrictions.
Puppies have special needs and require a home where someone is available to care for, socialize, and give basic training. If you are gone for more than a couple hours at a time, please consider adopting a teen or older dog.
5. Adoption fees are $400.00. We accept Zelle, Cash or Checks. (Prices are subject to change without notice).
6. All dogs and puppies adopted through Forever Home are fully vetted with age appropriate vaccines. Keep in mind once you take possession of your newly adopted dog, any and all future medical costs or care is YOUR responsibility.
7. First time puppy/dog adopters will be required to sign up for and pay in advance a basic training class. A deposit of an extra 50.00 will be required until a class has been completed, it will then be returned.
