My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Snowman Joe!

We got an early morning text one day from his owner asking if we could pick him up that day because no one in the household had time for him and no one was taking him out 🤷‍♀️. He was previously housebroken but having accidents and marking because no one in the family wanted to walk him, and when we recommended neutering they asked if that would stop him from peeing altogether and he wouldn’t need to be taken out 🤦‍♀️. He hadn’t been to a vet in several years at least (and if it were up to him, would never go again, he did not enjoy his trip to our vet at all- muzzle training and sleepy drugs 💊 will make future visits less stressful on everyone, especially him), had some icky skin infections, and is a very nervous guy clearly ready to defend himself from any raised voice or threatening gesture. All in all, being surrendered seems like the best thing that could have happened this little guy. He can do much better.

His owners didn’t know what breed of dog Joe was, but we suspect he’s mostly American Eskimo, maybe with some Pom mixed in, and is about 14lbs full grown with a plush fluffy coat, and 4 years old. Joe wants to please and be loved but needs some time to warm up and doesn’t want anyone, people or dogs, in his face right away. Spitz are a very quirky sensitive breed who especially don’t do well with rough handling or correction; positive reinforcement only to earn trust and build a mutually respectful bond with this little guy. He’s been unassuming with the other small dogs as long as they let him check them out at his speed, and prefers to just hang with the older calm dogs rather than wrestle and roughhouse with the youngsters. He is perfectly crate trained and has been doing great with housebreaking in foster if actually taken outside on a regular basis.

Joe is being fostered in Northern NJ- please email njwoof@cs.com if you are interested in meeting our little Snowman ⛄️
