My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Allegra, a delightful 53-pound APBT mix with a personality as upbeat as her name suggests. At 9 years old, she has gracefully transitioned past the puppy stage but remains an active and engaging companion. Despite being deaf, Allegra is exceptionally tuned in to her surroundings, and demonstrates a remarkable level of awareness.

This smart cookie thrives on mental stimulation. Her smarts make her stand out during enrichment activities at Home Fur Good. Allegra is not just a participant; she’s one of the fastest puzzle solvers there! She proves that age is no barrier to a sharp mind. However, kennel life has been a challenge for her, as her intelligence seeks constant engagement.

During walks, Allegra is an attentive and eager partner. While her enthusiasm might initially lead to pulling, she quickly responds to redirection and settles into a pleasant stroll. Deafness hasn’t hindered her obedience training; she’s mastered hand signals for sit, give paw and wait. Allegra is ready and willing to learn many more!

Allegra is destined to shine in a home environment. She craves one-on-one attention, where her best qualities can truly blossom. Boredom in the shelter sometimes prompts OCD behaviors, such as pacing and hyper-focusing on objects, but redirection quickly brings her back to her charming self.

Allegra needs to be the only pet in a household, and after years of waiting, she deserves all the attention she can get. Her adoption fee of $150 includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. To meet this lovely senior, adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 602-971-1334. Give Allegra the loving home she’s been patiently waiting for and watch her flourish in a world that recognizes her brilliance and sweet nature.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Home Fur Good has trained adoption counselors to review and question any potential problems/issues with application. We do require an adoption fee which ranges for dogs $150-$300 and for cats $50-$100. All cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and vet checked.
If another dog or dogs are present in the household we require a meet and greet prior to adoption. All members of the household must be on board with adoption. We do not adopt our rescues out without meeting person that will be responsible - no "gift" adoptions. We contract that if cat/dog must be relinquished they are returned to us. If there is a change of ownership we must be kept informed who responsible party is. Fees are non refundable.

More about this rescue

Home Fur Good is a non profit no kill animal shelter located in the NE Valley. We take a majority of our cats and dogs from County, many who have treatable medical conditions and would otherwise be put down. We assess physical and behavior and work with the cats/dogs to find the best suitable match. It is our goal that each cat or dog that comes to our shelter ultimately be placed in their "furever" homes.

We also operate a low cost vaccine and microchip clinic each Sunday. We want to help community be able to care for and keep their animals safe. We do not charge vet fee only fee for vaccine and microchip. Additionally we have a low cost dental clinic each Wednesday. Check our website for more details.
