My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Leo is in a shelter and the deadline is tomorrow the 15th at 5pm. The shelter is overcrowded and any dogs who is scared will be euthanized. Believe us it is true and they have no room anymore.
Leo is a 1.5-year-old, 54lb, heartworm negative, neutered
Leo was surrendered because of a change in living conditions for his owner, he was evicted. He has been shy at the shelter which is a normal behavior. You can take a perfectly happy dog in his home and turn him to a monster in a shelter environment. How do I know? we pulled many dogs who were very reactive and found out they were great outside. just needs a chance.
These are the notes from the shelter:
He has improved incrementally but is still an extensive project at this time and requires the Wellness team to perform any meet and greets with potential adopters. PRC is beyond capacity, with no room for incoming dogs, and all resources are exhausted; we have no availability to work with special needs cases that aren't general adoption candidates at this moment. Final rescue plea, with a deadline, will be sent. Humane Euthanasia will be authorized if there is no commitment by the established final deadline.

Leo has lived inside and is house broke. He will try to door dart if given the chance. He is very excited during car rides trying to look everywhere.
11/04/22 Citizen is surrendering due to being evicted. If owner gets back on his feet, he would love the dog back. At intake Leo was very tense with whale eyes. After a few minutes, he sat at staff's leg. When staff would pet him, it would take a second for him to lean into staff. Leo began whining and heavily panting once owner left. He was easy to redirect and walk on leash. Staff tried to introduce the muzzle which the dog growled at. Once in the kennel the dog approached staff and allowed staff to pet.

11/05/22 Staff approached Leo's kennel. He was in the back behind the bed. Leo approached the front of the kennel. Staff was able to leash him and walk him outside easily. Leo sniffed around ignoring staff for several minutes. When staff called for him, he did jump on staff and try to lick their face. Leo was easy to walk by other dogs. Leo walked easily walked into his kennel but tried to dart out afterwards. Staff was able to take the leash off and pet him.

11/06/22 Leo walks well on leash and showed social behaviors while interacting with staff member. Staff observed a wagging tail and loose body posture while interacting with Leo. Leo allowed all petting on his head, upper and lower body. Leo allowed staff member to place him back into the kennel and remove the leash without issue.

11/08/22 A staff member helped with Leo's meet and greet. Leo was very nervous and sensitive to his surroundings. Once in the yard, he showed the same behaviors, he allowed petting from the staff member and JS. Citizen tried to interact with him but was not able to pet him because of how uncomfortable Leo was. Leo spent some time in the yard and then went back to the kennel. When he was being returned the staff member had to use a tool to get the leash off, Leo started to growl when the staff went to remove the leash.

11/13/22 Staff member was able to leash and walk Leo without issue. Once in the play yard, Leo sat with staff member and allowed all petting. Leo would occasionally jump into staff members lap and would continue to allow petting. Staff member was able to put Leo back into the kennel without issue.

11/14/22 Staff member was able to leash Leo and walk him without issue. Staff member placed him back in kennel without issue.
