My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Walter! I am an 12 year old Greenwing Macaw. I have been known to bond with a woman in the home. I will need someone with experience because I have biten men and children. I will not hesitate to chase, bite and strike at anyone near my person so I will need someone who will not allow that behavior. I am not recommended to homes with smaller children. I love car rides. I love a circular rope swing to sleep and play on. I love to chew up wood and shake toys with bells on them. I am a large Macaw so I will need plenty of space to stretch and exercise my wings and have lots of wood toys to chew up and destroy to keep me happy. I can get loud so I can not live in an apartment setting.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Procedurally, if you wish to adopt a parrot from our organization, you must first become a member. That requires return of the membership application (attached) along with a $25.00 single or $30.00 family membership fee. The membership fees go towards the membership, the discount on food and toys in our store and the home visits. Members may adopt a parrot at such time as their Adoption Application (attached) for the parrot in question has been approved. Adoption fees vary and are due and payable in full prior to the parrot being placed into the home, but are fully refundable for a period of 30 days upon return of the parrot to C.A.A.R.E. in the same condition as received within said 30 days. This is to ensure that the parrot fits into the family well. Home visits are generally required as part of the adoption process to ensure that a proper environment is being provided for the parrot. We have contracts signed and in place for the well being of the parrot or parrots with guidelines and stipulations.

More about this rescue

We are the Center for Avian Adoption, Rescue, and Education! We are an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation located in West Fargo, North Dakota. Our mission is to reach out and educate the public on the appropriate health care and general well-being of companion parrots.
