My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Thor is a wonderfully, silly, happy, goofy boy! There is nothing about Thor that is unlikable; he thinks he's a lap dog so watch were you put your feet because he may just sit on them. He also can be protective so introductions should be supervised.

Upon arrival to his foster home, Thor was very shy and a little skittish until he warmed up to me. He was sad for awhile as well because he missed his family and needed time to adjust. We are looking for a furever home that has experience with the Mastiff breed. If you do not have previous experience please do not apply.

Thor's personality is such that he needs to be part of a family. He is strictly an indoor dog and is not meant to be left in a yard; he can get destructive if left outside alone. He is the definition of a couch potato and has taken residence on my sectional. Please be aware that he drools (that's the breed) and so keeping your sofa covered is the best way to keep it clean. You can train him to stay on the floor but you need to provide him with a large enough bed for him to get his entire body onto, think human size. He is a great watch dog and will bark if someone comes close to the house.

He needs to be able to go to go outside and get some fresh air and run around a bit. Thor would love a companion dog to play with but he can be picky about his companion so introductions are necessary prior to adoption approval. He absolutely loves my little 10lb dachshund and they play very well together. Some larger dogs intimidate him; especially large black dogs. His current bestie is a 1 year old, male, pit-mix. He also eats about 4 cups of food a day which means he gets fed twice a day to prevent bloat, which this breed is particularly prone to.

Overall, Thor is an amazing companion. He is very intelligent as well as extremely sensitive so shouting and loud noises scare him. He loves to go where you go and if he gets to ride in the car he will take up the entire back seat, lol! Please consider this goofy boy and give him a furever home.

We are requiring that Thor's furever home have the following:

~A place in your home as an indoor dog so that he can socialize with family.

~An adopter with previous Mastiff experience.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

FDR has a 3 step application process to ensure that all of our dachshunds will only have happiness in their future. We will require a vet reference (if applicable), personal references and a home visit.

We do have a contract and adoption fees in place to cover veterinary expenses and shelter fees. Visit our webiste for more details.

Once your application has been approved, we have a wonderful volunteer transport system that we are creating to help your dachshund and your family unite! If you would like to be involved as a volunteer transporter, visit our website! It only takes a few hours on a saturday, mileage is tax-deductible and you will be making a huge difference in a dachshunds life.

More about this rescue

Furever Dachshund Rescue (FDR) is a non-profit organization comprised 100% of volunteers located throughout the United States working together to rescue Dachshunds in need of Furever Homes. We are dedicated to the following:

To rescue, rehabilitate and re-home abandoned, neglected and stray dachshunds.
To educated people to succeed as dachshund owners to provide a loving, nurturing home for these wonderful furbabies.
Teach awareness of pet overpopulation, importance of spaying/neutering, vaccinations, euthanasia, puppy mills and the consequences of purchasing as opposed to adopting from a rescue or shelter.
Additional education regarding breed-specific traits, medical issues, fostering, etc.
Respect fellow volunteers within FDR and in the rescue community. Show appreciation for all who volunteer their time and effort to promote teamwork and camaraderie. As a non-paid volunteer group, we know time is valuable and appreciate others who have big hearts and want to help dachshunds in need.
