My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Chico also known as My Buddy. My Buddy is believed to be a 10-pound, 2-3-year-old Chiweenie (chihuahua dachshund mix). His reddish hair is soft and cuddly and he has cute white feet and a white tip on my tail. He is a bit shy at first but very social and outgoing once comfortable. Takes him no time to be friends when meeting. Buddy just needs to be the one that approaches first, always. And will do so in seconds. Once he approaches he's pretty much your buddy for life!
Hello, my name is Buddy but my foster pop calls me My Buddy or Chico. I respond to all. I’ll sit on your lap and nudge you to pet me. I do like to put my paws around your neck and take a nap. Warm snuggles are a must. I enjoy daily walks and playful dogs. I LOVE LOVE BIG DOGS. They reflect my true self. I often get the zoomies and am an explorer so is best a fence in the yard. But I enjoy neighborhood walks too. I am excellent on leash, crate, and house train, im NOT A BARKER! I know better. I can be a bit dramatic if you baby me so please don't. Snuggles and cuddles are great too but I'm not a toy, a purse, or a baby. I'm your Buddy and I need to be treated respectfully like a dog. I sniff butts, lift my leg to pee (always outside), hate my nails trimmed, eat dog food, love all toys, especially squeaky ones, and I do POTTY OUTSIDE ALWAYS even on command. However, I love wearing sweaters and tucked in a warm fleece on them cold nights. Buddy is a cat and dog of all sizes friendly. He is not a couch potato and easily walks 1-4 miles. But he is not hyper either just evenly active. A fenced yard is awesome but daily walks are best, especially for my big brain. I'm smart, I know my basic commands, love brain puzzles with food obviously, and I'm not over-greedy if you keep me in check. I like my independence but enjoy my human comfort too. Please no kids. I'm best in an adult home with other dogs preferably of different sizes. I'm a small dude so I can only connect and fall in love with 1 or 2 people but I get along with everyone. I just play favorites and if you clip my nails I do hold a grudge but not for long. Normally I'm over it as soon as someone else pisses me off. Cats are cool too if they will play that's even better but not a must.
Buddy currently lives at the sanctuary as a foster with many dogs. He goes outside to the bathroom. He is very sweet and loves to cuddle, play ball, and have snack time. If you are interested in meeting Buddy, please submit an adoption application to animalhousesanctuary.org
Buddy is house and crate trained, up to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto, rabies, dewormed, fecal tested negative, microchipped, neutered, and on monthly heartworm flea/tick prevention.

We believe training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues that arise, need to be addressed and/or rewarded. Understanding that continued training is a lifetime commitment, is very important.
Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense. Meet & Greets are a required before proceeding with an adoption. We DO NOT ship any of our pets.
