My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Update - 1/9: Max required 2 seperate operations, since he had a bi-lateral hernia. He has had both and is fully recouperated. He feels good for probably the first time in his life, and is very playful. Max is now available for adoption. He will require an active home that can provide the exercise and stimulation he needs.

Update - 12/8: It has been discovered that Max has a very bad hernia. He will be undergoing surgery for this on Monday. It is believed by his vet that the hernia is what has been causing pain in his rear, and he does not have hip dysplasia at all. We will have a definite answer to this after his surgery.

Hi, I'm Max, a retired narcotics dog who was handed over from owner to owner until I landed in a kill shelter, and was running out of time. I'm a very sweet, well-behaved and laid-back boy. I like all people and children and am also good with other dogs. I don't like cats, though.

I'm looking for a special home with someone who will love and treasure me, so I never have to worry about being on my own again. I am utd on routine vaccinations, heartworm prevention and flea/tick prevention. I am also neutered and housetrained. I do have mind hip dysplasia, but it doesn't slow me down one bit!

I am 6 years old, which is about the perfect age for a GSD. I'm past all the pesky 'teenage' behavior and am ready to be a loving and loyal companion. So if you think I might be the one for you, please fill out an online application and let's get the ball rolling!

Max must go to an indoor home where he will be an important part of the family. We do not adopt to anyone under the age of 21. Our adoption fee is $250.

Note: Mid-South Shepherd Rescue is a no-kill, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We do not have a shelter location. Our dogs are kept in foster homes as part of a family, to help prepare them for transition into their forever homes. If you are interested in meeting one of our dogs, please contact us by clicking on the email address to your right. We will be glad to make arrangements for a meeting.
