My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Help us welcome Spunky, a 15 years young, 15 lb Poodle mix who says age is JUST A NUMBER!!! It's hard to believe Spunky is 15 years old and we suspect he may be younger given the zoomies he does around the house after a bath and his perfect health!! You may remember we scooped him up from the shelter after his family surrendered him. They could no longer care for him and we didn’t wait a second to say yes, we would help him. Now he is ready to find a home for his golden years.
Spunky is good with other dogs and loves to meet all dogs when out walking. He is a perfect gentleman to the ladies - only sniffs their noses - they all LOVE him! 😂 And he loves to walk - it’s his favorite activity in the whole world. He is great on a leash — walks by your side and never pulls. Spunky is also fine with cats; he ignores them.
Spunky is a very calm boy and follows his foster Mom around the house and will lay down by the door until she returns. He likes toys a bit and will play by himself. He does not get on furniture unless invited and then enjoys sitting next to his human or maybe in their lap but he does not like to be petted or touched. We don’t know what this poor boy went through in his previous life but he will cry out if touched- we suspect abuse/punishment and as such he is traumatized from years of it.Despite this all, he years to be by his human's side and is very happy to be sitting next to you and looking at you adoringly. He does tolerate having his head/ears scratched while collar/harness/leash are being put on/taken off because he loves to go outside.
As Spunky has reached this senior age, it’s not unexpected that his hearing is limited. He is not a dog food traditionalist either 😂 and prefers chicken, rice and some vegetables. He has come around and will now eat most dog treats. This sweet boy has a big heart and is ready to give it to YOU if will open your home and heart to him. If you are interested in adopting Spunky, please complete an application through our website, www.floridacockerrescue.org. His adoption fee is $ 175.00.

More about this rescue

Florida Coastal Cocker Rescue (FCCR) is a non-profit organization located in SW Florida. We are dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing Cocker Spaniels throughout the state of Florida and neighboring states. We rely 100% on donations and volunteers to help us take care of our dogs. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccines and rabies, heartworm tested, flea and heartworm treatment, and microchip.

FCCR carefully screens all of our potential furever and foster homes to ensure that our pups will have safe and loving homes. Some of our dogs come from shelters and abusive situations and we want to make sure that they will only see love the rest of their lives.
