My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Betty is a 1.5 year old petite German Shepherd mix. She has a medium energy level and is sweet, affectionate, eager to learn and loyal. She loves to snuggle and loves affection! She will put her head in your lap when she wants cuddles. Betty LOVES fetch and balls in general. She has no problem playing on her own; anything furry or a ball will do.

Betty has been an excellent house guest and has never been destructive in her foster’s home. She does not get on the furniture and never chews on anything she’s not supposed to. She is fully house-trained and crate-trained. She loves to go in her crate throughout the day and relax. Betty sleeps in her crate at night and has no problem going in the crate if you leave to run errands during the day. She does not seem to have any separation anxiety when left alone. She is comfortable by herself and can easily entertain herself. As a young shepherd, she requires daily exercise, preferably in the morning or if you need to leave for several hours.

Betty is a very intelligent girl. She picks things up quickly and knows sit, wait, focus and here. Her recall is great. She is wonderful in the bath and loves the toweling off afterwards - she’ll lay on her back for tummy rubs.

Betty is great with male and female dogs and is more on the submissive side. She will back off if another dog gives her a correction. She has never shown any aggression with dogs or people. She lives with her foster brother with no issues (other than being an annoying little sister at times)! She is cat-friendly. She just ignores them and shows no interest.

Her leash walking is getting better but is a bit inconsistent. At times, she is great. Other times, she will show reactivity by barking at strangers while walking. She doesn’t seem to bark at strangers who are walking dogs. Her foster is working on “that’s enough” when barking. She is a typical shepherd with standard reactivity towards strangers. Continued socialization and maturity will make a huge difference, so any interested adopter MUST be committed to working on this with her. Betty would excel with nose work or Search & Rescue training. She always has her nose to the ground.

Betty’s ideal home would be someone who is active with a large, fenced yard. She is a young shepherd and still has that clumsy, silly puppy energy. She loves walking, hiking and playing fetch. Her foster mom takes her to the park in the morning to play fetch for about 45 minutes to an hour, or takes her on a hike to wear her out. She would do well with older kids, with younger kids she may knock them over unintentionally.

Betty is spayed, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccinations! She is being fostered in Corvallis, OR.
