My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Phoenix is a 9 year old German Shepherd mix who lived his whole life in one home before being sadly surrendered due to a change in family circumstances he had trouble coping with. He's an affectionate, intelligent, playful boy who attaches quickly and loves loves loves his person. His previous owner described him as her shadow and she was not wrong! He also enjoys the company of other medium and large sized dogs, but generally likes to be the boss of the relationship. He has not been tested with small dogs. While he has never lived with cats before, he has been pretty accepting of the dog savvy cat in his current foster home. He may chase cats that run or otherwise react to him though. Phoenix is very food motivated, knows several commands, and walks well on a leash. He is also already housebroken and making big strides in crate training after only a few days in his foster home. Per his previous owner, Phoenix is reactive to children playing and would do best in a quiet, breed experienced, adults only home. He has also been diagnosed with kidney disease and is on daily medication and special food to help keep him at his best. Fortunately, being the snack lover he is, he's extremely easy to medicate and gobbles his pill right down with dinner. Phoenix additionally struggles with separation anxiety, but we are hopeful he will continue settling down as he adjusts to all his recent life changes. This sweet boy deserves a new home to call his own, and he will pay you back with all the devotion in the world. If you think he'd be a good fit, please apply. Experience with the breed preferred.

*This dogs adoption fee is $175

Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.

Interested in this animal? The first step is an application, which can be completed at www.cvrrescue.org/adoption-applications/.

The adoption fee helps cover a portion of the care provided for our animals, including spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm testing for dogs, FeLV/FIV combo testing for cats, deworming, age-appropriate vaccines (including rabies vaccine), and any medical care received while in our care. All cats and dogs are on flea/tick and parasite prevention for the duration of foster care.

Notes about puppies: Adopters can expect a new puppy to have accidents, chew things they shouldn't, and have other normal, energetic puppy issues until they are trained, including jumping, mouthing, and general youthful naughtiness. If you experience puppy issues, please feel free to contact us; we’re happy to offer guidance. Also, if a puppy is a mixed breed, we cannot guarantee an adult weight. If your residence has weight restrictions or if you’re looking for a specific adult weight, we don't recommend applying for a mixed-breed puppy.

We also offer rehoming services for pets currently owned by individuals. In these cases, we list the animal as a courtesy to the owner, and the animal is not currently in the care of CVRR, such that we can make no representation or guarantee of the animal’s behavior, demeanor, or health assessment. All information listed for a courtesy-posted animal is provided by the current owner and should be verified by any potential adopter.

CVRR is a nonprofit organization. We have no paid staff, and all applications are reviewed and processed by our volunteers. Please be patient and understand that it may take 7-14 days to process your application, check your references, and gather follow-up info. You can expedite the process by providing accurate phone numbers and email addresses for your vet and landlord references, and by answering each question fully. Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet to see if the animal picks you, too. If it seems the adoption will be a good match for all, we will collect the adoption fee and complete the adoption contract.

CVRR is a NO KILL rescue organization, and we have a LIFETIME COMMITMENT to all of our animals. If for any reason the adoption does not work out, the animal must be returned to CVRR. We will reevaluate the animal and choose a new home based on the best fit for it.
