My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

She's gorgeous, she's smart, she wants to please, and she's not shy about looking for your attention. Molly would love to be your new best friend!

HISTORY
Her rescuers picked her up as a stray in early January. When their efforts to find her family failed they asked HART for help. She has been living in a foster home in Richland, Eastern Washington since then, acquiring manners and growing her confidence.

SOCIALIZATION
Molly very quickly becomes attached to her special person or people. But once she's decided you're The One, she tends to be less enthusiastic about your visitors. She'll get anxious and barky when strangers come to the home, but is usually friendly when she meets new people while out and about. Her foster is working with her to get her used to interacting comfortably with people.

We haven't introduced Molly to any children. We don't believe she would hurt anyone, but kids can be scary for dogs - and we don't want her barking to scare a child. With time and training she can learn to interact well with anyone, but we believe she'd do best in an adult-only home.

With other dogs, Molly tends to be dominant and pushy. She becomes very protective of her person if a dog approaches. However when out on walks she'll ignore barking dogs inside properties that she passes. We are working on her ability to interact with dogs, and it's possible that Molly could share a home with a very confident, laid-back dog of compatible size, but she'd also be perfectly content as an only dog. She is not a suitable candidate for dog parks.

We've introduced Molly to a few dog-savvy cats and she's been interested but not shown any aggression. She would probably chase a cat if it ran, but we'd expect her to treat a confident cat with respect. She also pretty much ignores the squirrels in the yard at her foster home.

TEMPERAMENT AND GENERAL BEHAVIOR
Molly is a major league snuggler! If you invite her for a cuddle she will lean right in, she loves belly rubs, and she'd love to convince you that she's a lapdog. However, she will give you your space; if you're taking couch time or at your desk, she'll check in periodically and ask for a pet, but then will settle down nearby and keep you company. When you're moving around the house doing chores, she tends to stay close.

She's a medium-energy girl. She loves to do zoomies around the backyard, and daily walks and playtime are essential - but she's also very content to kick back and do nothing. She also copes well with extended periods of crate time while her foster is at work, provided she gets a midday break and a good workout before and after he leaves.

When she was rescued Molly didn't really know what toys were for, and squeaky toys may scare her. But she's learning to entertain herself by tossing toys around, and she enjoys a good chew toy, like a kong, or a bone. However, she's a puppy! She is still learning what's okay to chew or play with - and if you don't pick up after yourself she might make you sorry.

HEALTH STATUS
Molly has been spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and treated for parasites. She has been examined by a veterinarian, and appears to be in good health.

Based on the vet's estimate, she was born around May 2022. When full-grown she is expected to weigh around 70 lbs.

TO ADOPT

To apply to adopt her, please email HearthfireART@gmail.com to request an adoption application.

We do not have a facility. Molly is in a foster home in Kennewick, Eastern Washington, and will be available to meet you after your adoption application has been approved.

We do not ship our dogs to adopters using a third party. All adopters must be willing to come and meet the dog they're interested in, and take them home. Under some circumstances we may be able to arrange for a HART volunteer to transport a dog to their adoptive home.
