My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Duke is an amazing two year old blonde lab mix. I love his size he is truly the best size to have. It is truly a love story where this little nugget is concerned. I first noticed him as I was walking my dogs one morning right in front of my house. I live out in the country and there are some people who live up the road from me in a small little trailer. I would see Duke almost every morning and so I started bringing him food because he was so thin. I started asking questions and the gentleman told me that he found him at a place called Camp Claiborne. It is a road that leads down to some old World War II abandoned facilities that have old buildings and people go out to ride motorcycles and things like that. It is also become a very popular dumping ground for animals. So he finds Duke and he is so messed up. He's extremely thin he's got cuts and nicks all over him from trying to survive. There are all kinds of wildlife creatures out there that aren't friendly to smaller dogs. He kindly brings Duke home feeds him and nurses him back to health. Well I guess it gets too crowded in his small trailer with his family and his other dog so he starts letting Duke roam around. Another person in a small trailer stakes claim to him and when I ask him if I can put him in rescue he says no. However I give him medicine and I continue to feed him every morning when I'm out walking my dogs. One day Duke does not show up for feeding time. I'm so stressed out as I am scheduled to have surgery that afternoon and I wanted to make sure that he was taken care of. I was looking on Facebook and saw a picture of him about 5 miles away. Someone had found him and had him safe but they were going to have to call animal control. They said he was a lovely boy but there was no way that they could keep him. I was so thrilled that I rushed over before heading to my check in surgery time retrieved him got him settled in a kennel and moved on with my life that day. I soon took him to the vet and found out that he was heartworm positive but otherwise a super healthy boy. I was determined that this boy was going to have the best rest of his life ever. We put him in heartworm treatment - his little wounds have healed there are a few little scars but this boy is the most amazing thing ever. He is under 40 pounds and walks beautifully on the leash. He loves everybody, he does not ever meet a stranger or a strange dog. Feeding time still ranks up as his favorite part of the day. This little guy has a piece of my heart and I am determined to find him the best family ever. These first few years have been rough but I promised him that the rest of his life was going to be full of yummy food, lots of belly rubs, soft beds and a wonderful human to love him. He's completely up-to-date on all vaccines, rabies vaccination, neuteted, micro chipped and current on heartworm prevention. He has been cleared from heartworm treatment and now we are looking for his forever home. Duke will need basic house training but the one thing he won't need training for is Love. He is a super lovable boy and I can't wait for his life to begin. If you think you might be able to offer Duke a forever home please let us know.
