My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Rain, our cute little wobbly friend! Rain is currently around a year old and weighs in at just about 35 pounds!

Anyone who meets our sweet Rain can see that he is a special boy! You may notice that Rain walks a little differently than most puppies his age - he’s quite clumsy! A complete neurological and orthopedic evaluation at the University of Georgia didn’t show any specific abnormalities, so it is likely that Rain was born with several congenital issues that resulted in his quirky walk. He used to have some issues in the pottying department as well, but these are well controlled on a specific diet. At this time, Rain does not need any special medications or therapies to treat his unique condition. Just lots of love!

Housebreaking, Crate-Training, and Commands
Rain is currently working on both house and crate training. He needs a proper routine in order to not have accidents in the house, but manages to keep the house dry if he is taken out on schedule! It seems he has a grasp that potty = outside, but sometimes, he just can’t help himself, which is totally normal for a puppy!

As far as the crate goes, that one is a bit easier. He will cry for just a bit reminding you that he’s there, but once he’s settled he’s good to go! He currently stays in the crate at night, for all his meals, and if his foster family goes out!

Behavior around other Dogs, Cats, and Kids
Because he’s a puppy, life's a breeze for Rain! He is curious and fun, and will play, play, play if you let him. He’s been around children from ages 3-14 and overall, he’s great other than some puppy nibbles. Chasing cats is a fun game, but will quickly stop if he’s corrected by the cat (or human!) And as far as other dogs go, he loves them! But he is a little too amped for playing so he may get on an older dog's nerves and have to be taught the house rules.

Rain would not be a good candidate for a dog park because of his health needs, but would likely do well with trusted dogs in a private park setting!

Behavior around People + Exercise Needs
Rain is by all accounts your typical puppy. He loves to play! He loves people and is so friendly! Rain especially loves snuggles once he’s got his energy out! He’s not demanding about attention though and will leave you alone if you aren’t up for it in the moment.

Rain is a hop, skip, and a sideways run (literally) away from being yours! Contact us today!

If you’d like to be considered to adopt, the first step in the process is to submit an application through our website: http://athenscaninerescue.com/adoption-procedures/. Our adoption fee is $250 per dog over the age of 6 months and $300 per dog 6 months or younger. We accept payment by Venmo, PayPal, or card.

This includes: basic vet care (i.e. basic vaccinations, including boosters completed after adoption, spay/neuter, heartworm/flea preventatives, and treatment for any health needs while in our care), a microchip, a week’s worth of food for the trial-period, and a harness lead.

All in state applications will be considered with some preference given to more local applications. WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING OUT OF STATE APPLICATIONS FOR DOGS SIX MONTHS OR YOUNGER.

We do not have a facility and operate through a network of foster homes. Thus, we do not have a phone number. If you’d like to discuss potential adoptions, please email at adopt@athenscaninerescue.com.

More about this rescue

Athens Canine Rescue is a non-profit organization of foster homes in Athens, Georgia. We have no shelter facility and we rely upon a network of foster homes to house our dogs until they are placed in permanent happy homes of their own. ACR only takes in dogs that are friendly, companion animals. As rescue dogs, ACR pups have often been neglected by previous owners, and rarely arrive impeccably trained. They are very trainable however! Whether young or adult, ACR dogs are invariably loving, willing to please and incredibly grateful.
