My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Garbanzo
DOB/Sex: ~10/19/22 M (will be neutered by rescue at appropriate age).
Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Health Issues: Currently some GI issues post meds. Expected to fully resolve.
Good with: Dogs! Cats! Kids!

To say that I am enamored with this little man would be an understatement, I am completely smitten! Garbanzo is cheeky, intelligent, and the perfect combo of affectionate and independent. And it's now time for him to start his search for his forever home!

Garbanzo is a puppy that lights up a room. He has a gentleness that belies his age, but is just as quick to destroy something he can get his teeth on. He is curious, and bold, and recovers well when startled.

Garbanzo is a softer puppy, and while curious about the world, is not a puppy that wants a bunch of strangers fawning over him. He's happy to share space and exist, but has a boundary that you need to build a relationship with him, to cross. Though not a guarantee, I suspect he will mature into a dog that is as equally discerning. He does very well at his fear free vet, and is generally laid back about things life throws at him. If you take the time to guide him through a situation, you'll get through just fine.

Garbanzo arrived in rescue, with what we had suspected was a broken leg. Thankfully it was not broken, but in fact had a severe infection in the knee. He has completed a long course of antibiotics, and his doctor has given him the all clear to go up for adoption! We anticipate that the leg is fully resolved, and no lasting issues should occur. He is having a bit of diarrhea still, which we attribute to the long course of antibiotics + fighting a Giardia infection. He is on a second course of happy gut treatment, and we expect this will also fully resolve.

Garbanzo's ideal home is one that is consistent, and calm. A home that is looking for a working dog, and ready to engage and expand his world. He would be a wonderful beginner sport dog, and is already a champion hiker. Currently he is used to 2+ hikes a week, averaging 5-7km. On top of course, of his regular walks and activities. He loves to play in the water, and is working on his ball drive and retrieve.

With his temperament, and age, Garbanzo has the potential to live in a variety of family types. Dogs, cats, and kids are all welcome. Training is key to ensure success. Garbanzo is not well suited to a home with a lot of chaos, or frequent guests coming and going.

If you're looking for your new adventure partner, and are ready for the commitment a puppy entails, then Garbanzo is eager to meet you! Please message for an application to start the process.
