My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Clementine has been waiting since we first got her in February 2021 to be adopted and we just know that she’ll make an amazing addition to a family willing to give her a chance!

When Clemmy first came to us, we had pulled her off the euthanasia list at the NY ACC, where the insanely stressful kennel environment had caused her to completely shut down and she became a shell of herself. Once she was with us, we knew that it was going to take time for her to settle into her new routine and it took until the first snow for her to finally begin coming out of her shell and start to act like a dog just a little. But once we saw that glimpse of her personality, we knew she was going to be an amazing dog. And we were never happier to be right!

Slowly over the next few months, Clementine let more and more of her personality show and she showed us that she is a beautiful soul who loves car rides, sleeping in front of the big window in her foster home, and playing with toys. She is great at fetch, loves going on hikes, and bonds strongly to her people. She is very smart, eager to please, and is a wonderful work buddy if you are still working virtually from home, and has often popped up in video chat work meetings with her foster family.

She’s always up for whatever you want to do, whether it’s go for hikes or just curl up on the couch and cuddle. As long as she’s with her person, she’s a happy pup.

She has come such a long way with her socialization with people and other dogs. She went from being shut down and refusing to even look at someone she didn’t know, to being willing to shake paw for anyone she meets!

We'd love to see her be adopted as the only dog in a new home, so the attention could all be on her, but she would love to have playdates and go for walks with other dogs!

Clementine deserves and will need a family willing to commit to her and stay committed. Clementine can be sensitive, especially to change, so being adopted and returned could be very hard on her. She’s flourished so much while she’s been with us, we would absolutely hate for her to retreat back into her shell and become that shut down dog we first met again. For this reason, we want to be sure her new family is ready to continue her training program, so that her adoption can be successful and so that she can continue to be the lovable goofball she’s shown us she truly is!

Her adoption donation has generously been sponsored by Beans for Bullies Coffee Co (@beansforbulliescoffeeco), so now all we need to do is find the perfect family for her!

More about this rescue

Our Mission: To provide a quality life to the animals that need it most.

Wayward Ranch Animal Sanctuary, Inc. is a 501c3, tax exempt non-profit organization and all donations to our sanctuary are tax deductible.

The Dream:

Wayward Ranch was founded by three friends who, after working for other rescues for a long time, realized there was something missing from the average rescue model. No animal is perfect, and in the typical shelter system any behavioral concerns an animal had coming in are just exacerbated the longer they are kenneled or caged waiting for a home.

Many local shelters have taken to shipping puppies up from the south because they are more “adoptable” than the shelter animals we have here. However, this just floods are market and takes homes and resources from our local animals who are suffering as a result.

We are committed to a different type of rescue experience. We are a unique combination of adoption and sanctuary facility, taking the pressure of euthanasia away from animals who may not be generically adoptable. We also help our animals thrive, rather than deteriorate, as they wait for forever homes using a combination of enrichment and training techniques.
