My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sweetie is, as her name implies, is very sweet.  She is gentle and calm and can be a little shy at first, but once you start petting her she loosens up. She sure loves her sissy Munchkin and they are often cuddled up together. Sweetie was an owner surrender because the family had too many cats to care for.  They gave her a lot of attention and care and that is the kind of home she needs.  Sweetie is good with other cats and would make a great family pet.  She is litter box trained, spayed and ready for adoption!

If you have any questions or would like to come meet this little gal, please go to to complete an adoption application and we will contact you!

More about this shelter

The Stone County Humane Society is a 501(C)(3) private organization, not a government entity that was formed in 1999. We rescue dogs and cats and are a no-kill shelter but we are not an open take in facility. We are currently operating from our new shelter building recently completed in August 2016 and a cat cottage. Our organization is managed by a volunteer board of 10 individuals and a full-time paid employee shelter manager that handles the day to day operations, and three part-time paid employees that feed and care for the animals and keep the facility clean. Most of our daily operations are funded by proceeds from a Second Chance Shop in town and donations from individuals. We also provide low cost spay/neuter clinics to the people of our county with help from a local vet.
