My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Aspen, a blue merle rough collie, is as sweet as she is pretty. Her demeanor is kind and gentle as she grows more confident and up-beat every day. Aspen is not skittishly shy but she is reserved and needs a bit of help coming out of her shell. She is like a little chick; the shell is cracked open and she is testing out the spread of her wings!

Aspen has excellent house manners - no counter-surfing, no begging at the table, no chasing the cats. She is a good watch dog but is not particularly "barky". She enjoys her walks and behaves politely on her leash. While walking, she shows great interest and curiosity about people. She loves other dogs and wants to follow and make friends with them. (She likes cats, too, and is gentle with them, even if they don't respond to her bouncy invitations to play doggy games with her!)

So far she does not know any "formal" commands such as Sit, Stay, or Come. But, she is such a good girl that she stays close by indoors; waits patiently to have her feet wiped off after a walk; sits quietly in the back of the car on drives; and sleeps soundly all night next to the bed.

Aspen would love to have her very own:
* Yard to romp in.
* Canine pal to play with.
* Hobby, such as hiking with the family or working for herding or agility.

But mostly she wants to be a treasured member of a Family, and live with people who will help her achieve her true Collie potential - loving, loyal, trusting and ready to devote her life to warming hearts!

Aspen is one of the Yolo County Dogs, recently liberated from a 14 month long legal battle, and now free to find her"person" or "people" who will treat her with the love and care she deserves. These dogs were raised in an environment from the time they were puppies in which they had little contact with people and had no idea what it was like to live the life of a pampered pet. Because of Aspen's exceptionally underprivileged background, we cannot place her in a home with children. She would be best in a home with at least one other dog, since that is what she already knows. Updated - 01.02.06
