My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Happy Gilmore is an 18 lb dachshund mix who we estimate to be between 13 and 14 years old. He was a stray, so his past life has made him very laid back. Although he is quiet, he knows exactly when you go to the kitchen and loves to follow you in hopes of a snack.

Happy Gilmore is a sweet, chilled dude. And gets along with everyone including children and other dogs. A couch potato and a snoozer and will bark when you get home because gets excited to see you. He will happily sit next to you forever and only leaves when you get up. He goes to his bed every day when the sun goes down and sleeps through the night.

Environment

Happy Gilmore is housetrained and understands “you want to go to potty”. He’s looking for a home with a fenced yard as that’s what he’s used to, and he likes to wander and sniff. He doesn’t really chase or dig, just likes to pootle around and come back inside once he’s done his business. Happy Gilmore would appreciate someone who doesn’t need to leave him alone too long, since he’s unknown on crate training. Shared walls are totally fine since he’s not super chatty.

Pets & People

Happy Gilmore is great with people of all ages. He enjoys being petted and loved on, however, he doesn’t jump on and off the furniture and will need to be picked up. Happy Gilmore is good with other dogs and doesn’t have any issues with sharing treats or food despite his good appetite!

Training and Health

Happy Gilmore has a grade six heart murmur and is heartworm positive, so he will need ongoing medication and to be kept comfortable. He willingly takes his medication because he’s such a foodie—and such a good boy, of course. He loves to go for a walk and see the sights and is very good on the leash.

Location

Happy Gilmore is available for adoption from Milton, FL. He needs to be adopted close to home.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

6 Step Adoption Process

1) Application - (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog)

NOTE: Adoption Applications expire 6 months from the date of receipt. If you have already submitted an Adoption Application and it has been longer than 6 months, you will need to fill out a new Adoption Application.

2) Reference Checks - All references will be checked prior to home visit. We will contact your current vet, if you have one, for a reference.

3) Application Review - Processor reviews the application, calls the vet if you have one, verifies vaccinations and spay/neuter. We email personal references (if email is provided) or call them if necessary. Email is best since as references can respond when they are available.

4) Home Visit - A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss care of dachshunds. Also, the volunteer will look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved.

5) Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, LPDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family.

6) Contract - For the protection of the dogs we place, everyone that adopts a dachshund from LPDR will be required to sign an adoption contract.

Are you looking for an opportunity to foster a dachshund? Fostering is our transitional step from a shelter/surrender to a forever home. During this time it’s important that we give each dachshund a safe environment where it can learn to trust again, to heal and to learn how to become a loving family member. Many of the dachshunds that we pull from shelters or receive from an owner surrender just need a temporary home until their new forever home can be found. Please go to our website (www.LittlePawsDR.org) to learn more.

More about this rescue

Little Paws Dachshund Rescue is a foster-based, non-profit animal rescue that specializes in finding permanent homes for dachshunds, dachshund mixes, and other small dogs. It is LPDR’s goal to identify abandoned, mistreated, or homeless dogs and oversee their treatment and well being while working to find loving owners for those in our care. We strive to make the lives of all dogs better through action, advocacy, awareness and education.
