My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Sofie and Scrappie, a "bonded pair" of dogs adopted from North Ocean County Animal facility and recently returned when their owner was no longer able to care for them due to his medical condition. They have been taken in by NorthStar & are now in a loving foster home, looking for a new place to land.

Sofie is a 10-year-old adorable, chubby Chihuahua mix and Scrappie is a 13-year-old Cairn Terrier mix with a personality of his own. Both dogs are friendly, enjoy being petted and will seek attention. They love to hangout. If the weather is nice, they love to be outside hanging out on the deck. Otherwise, they are couch potatoes. They LOVE being with people & will always nuzzle up to you on the couch or find their way onto your lap. They are both lap dogs & I can never sit on the couch without both of them on each side of me.

Both dogs love people & visitors to the house. They are good with the young family members (ages 2, 3, & 5 years of age) who visit frequently. They do love their toys & will entertain themself. They have been around other dogs and cats in the past and currently live with two other dogs and a cat with no issues. Both dogs are very easy-going and enjoy hanging out with the group. Both dogs are also good on leash, easy to handle and would make a great addition to any home.

Scrappie, although he's older than Sofie, is more playful than she is - still lots of pep in this boy's step! They both know some basic commands like Sit, Come, Stay, Down & Shake. Scrappie was not a fan of all the rain we recently had - you can see a photo where he is hiding under a pink blanket because he did NOT want to go out in that wet weather!

We feel that they would make good pets for just about any home. They will only be adopted into a home together as they have lived together for many years & are dependent on each other.

If you feel like you would like to bring Scrappie and Sofie into your home, please fill out an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and ask for them by name, SCRAPPIE & SOFIE NJ - BONDED PAIR.

More about this rescue

In many areas of the country, especially in the South, the situation for animals is desperate: Chained outside and starving, homeless and running loose, or just simply no longer wanted and abandoned in an overburdened and underfunded facility that can’t possibly take another. For these animals, there is not much hope…except to look in the night sky for the North Star, their only way out. We are a group of passionate volunteers committed to saving these innocent dogs and finding them a new forever home. NorthStar Pet Rescue was founded in 2017, and although we might be a relatively new name among New Jersey animal rescues, you may recognize some of us from the work we’ve done volunteering with other rescues to help animals over the past decade. We are 100% dedicated to operating in an safe, transparent, and ethical manner and to ensuring the best veterinary practices are followed with regards to the care and transport of our animals. NorthStar Pet Rescue is IRS 501(c)(3) charitable organization (EIN: 81-5348036).
