My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cali is a energetic, excitable girl who thrives on companionship and fun activities like running, tugging, and walks. She weighs 48 pounds and likes to be the leader while on a leash. If she's off leash, she won't run away. She knows the sit command and is house trained. She spent her days either outside or crated up to four hours. She barks when she needs to go out or she'll just look at you and hope you figure it out. She loves climbing on a lap or sitting beside you asking for pets. Being close and snuggling is a priority for her. She is playful but cautious around other dogs and behaves well at the dog park but she can't resist barking at dogs she sees during walks. She behaves well around children and is playful but cautious. She has had a run of bad luck with her adopters. She was adopted as a young puppy and returned because of her owner's lifestyle change. Then she was adopted and returned because they didn't have enough time for her. She needs a family to spend time with her to keep her happy. Please offer loving Cali the home and family she needs. More about this shelter

Citizens For Animal Protection, founded in 1972, is committed to sheltering, rescuing, and placing homeless animals in loving homes; advocating respect and compassion for all animal life; providing humane education to prevent animal cruelty; and raising awareness in the community of the needs of animals.

CAP is proud to announce that through life-saving adoption and transfer programs and a lot of hard work, we have maintained a placement rate of over 93% for all homeless pets surrendered to our shelter in 2021. In 2021, CAP provided care for 10,260 animals; this includes animals surrendered by the public and transferred in from animal control agencies and rescue groups, animals already in the shelter and foster care program, feral cats trapped/neutered/returned and animals receiving vaccinations and other treatments in our low-cost vaccination clinic, The Cornelius Clinic.
