Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Whoooyaaa. My name is ENZO and here is a little info about me:
Breed:Norweigen Elkhound/German Shepard mix
Age: 3 yrs
Gender: male
Weight: 25 kg (55 pounds)
Height: 45 cm
Highlight(s): playful, athletic, clever, affectionate, independent, curious

Current foster update - Mar. 29, 2024

Meet Enzo, the affectionate, adventurous and spirited Norwegian Elkhound/German Shepherd mix, ready to embark on a new chapter in his life. At 3 years old and weighing about 55 lbs with a height of 45 cm, Enzo is full of playful energy and affection, he is a happy boy who hasn’t stopped wagging his tail since arriving at his foster home in Port Alberni.

Enzo made the long journey from Israel to Vancouver in December. His journey began on the streets of Bethlehem where he was rescued and brought to a shelter.

Highlights: Enzo is a clever boy with a playful spirit.  He has adapted well to living in his foster home and has learned new skills quickly. He thrives on affection and time spent with his people. He is truly a sweet dog, so playful and curious, and entertaining as well. He has lots of energy for walks and adventures but also enjoys his downtime when home.

Energy Level: Enzo's energy level is moderate. He loves long walks and running in the forest but is equally content having a quiet cozy evening with his people. He has been doing well with two walks a day and some time to play in the yard.  He is curious and eager to explore.

Interactions: Enzo gets along well with other dogs, is friendly to all dogs and people.  While cats are an unknown territory, his rescuer suggests it might not be the best match. He has been introduced to children while at his foster home and has shown gentleness towards them.  His overall personality is social, affectionate, and playful.

Skills: Enzo is learning to walk well on the leash, he has improved his pulling behaviours greatly since doing some training but is still working on it.  He is fully house-trained.  He is intelligent and learns new skills quickly.

Health Notes: Enzo has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.

Ideal Home: Enzo is looking for a home that can offer plenty of love and attention. An ideal situation would offer him access to off-leash areas for him to run. Enzo is a true companion who thrives on human connection. He prefers to be in the company of his people and may feel a bit lonely if left alone for extended periods. While Enzo is not a fan of prolonged solitude, he has shown remarkable trustworthiness when left alone for shorter periods.

I enjoy cuddling and am faithfully loyal. That's a great start, right?

Found on the streets of Israel by a visiting friend when I was almost 8 months old, I have been living in the shelter since then.

Being an energetic boy, I like long walks and to run. I can be a bit jumpy, but since I am intelligent, eager to learn and easy to train, you should be able to alleviate that habit. Though I am confident & alert, I can be submissive and a tad anxious. But I am a brave & daring pup, so it shouldn't take long to get into a relaxed state after I get to know routines and what to expect in my new world.

You will find I am quite entertaining, as while I am athletic, I am also silly clumsy sometimes.

I enjoy play, but can be a smidge dominant with submissive/calm male dogs. My rescuer does not think cats are a good combo for me. I do walk well on leash however.

I would like a home where you can give me plenty of attention and play time. I can get demanding of attention, me me me... in an agreeable way though. So, if a bright-eyed, happy boy is who you are after, look no further. Here I am.

Other vids on the way.

Energy Level: moderate - high

I get along with:
Dogs: yes
Cats: unknown, rescuer thinks not
Kids: unknown

Fears: reactive to the sound of cars. Please be patient assisting me in my transition.

Training: briefly describe
Leash skills: Some. Please be prepared to continue training.
House trained: Yes. Please be prepared to help me learn where to go in my new home.

Health notes:
I have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

My adoption fee is $800.00 CAD plus applicable taxes. This includes my transportation to Canada, if I am able to be accompanied by a flight volunteer directly to Vancouver.

Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.

Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live.

Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.

Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you.

While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or  Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs.

The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.

Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website.

More about this rescue

Loved At Last Dog Rescue operates in the Greater Vancouver area. We rescue and rehome local dogs as well as homeless dogs from numerous countries around the world, including Mexico, Korea, China, Iran, Kuwait, Bahrain and India. Many of these dogs have experienced hardship and cruelty yet they are gentle and loving. We have found that dogs who have experienced suffering appreciate every kindness shown them. All our dogs are fully vaccinated, microchipped and those over 6 months are spayed or neutered.
