My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

In Greenland, NH
Meet Dori! Dori is a 2 year-old purebred female Mini American Shepherd with soft silky fur and a beautiful, soulful face. She weighs 20 lbs and is perfectly portable.

Dori has a gentle, sweet disposition with a teeny side of sass once you get to know her. She is a sensitive girl who was rescued at 15 months old from a loud and chaotic breeding situation. Her previous owners took great care of her for 10 months until they faced health complications and realized they could no longer give her the care she needed.

Dori is a naturally curious girl but she startles at loud noises or quick movements and prefers to observe before entering into new situations. She appears uncomfortable in confined spaces and is not crate-trained. Dori walks easily on a leash, though her preferred form of exercise is to hike or walk on a long line in the woods where she can run and sniff and explore. She is a lower drive dog who gets along fine with small animals such as cats and rabbits. Although at first she was tentative around other dogs, Dori has been learning how to play by being around friendly, balanced dogs in her foster home. She now enjoys the company of other dogs, especially friendly or neutral ones - she does get nervous if they are too dominant or rough.

She shows minor interest in toys and does not play fetch. She seems interested in playing in water. Overall, Dori is a quiet dog. She has recently shown that she does bark, but she does so only occasionally. Dori is more comfortable with women than men overall but she can warm up to patient, gentle males.

Positives about Dori: Completely potty trained, compliant with bathing and grooming, easily walks on a leash, loving, sweet, rides well in the car, enjoys snuggling on the couch, able to be loose in the house, takes treats gently, medium/low energy, gets along well with other animals, loves to walk and hike in the woods

Dori’s ideal family would have: a fully
fenced yard, predictable & consistent daily routine, quieter household without too much coming and going, dog-savvy children 13 and up, a friendly companion dog or two, a family willing to take things slow and steady while she settles in and who will provide ongoing training to bond with her fully. Dori is being fostered in Greenland, NH
