My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lydia is the sweetest land seal (and LOVE BUG) on the planet. Lydia goes from K9 to land seal in a nanosecond. K9's are so loving, forgiving, and rescued dogs somehow know when they are rescued and that they are finally "safe." Lydia is a perfect example of K9's resilience and their pure unconditional love.

Let's get Lydia's "carfax" out of the way because no one likes to hear a sad puppy story. This PERFECT angel was found as a stray in North Carolina. The scars that she has on her face are from her escaping capture when animal control tried to "catch" her. She was more than likely escaping capture to make sure she did not go back to where she came from. She knew she deserved more than what life gave her in her first 3-4 years. In spite of a less than optimal first few years of her life, she is 100% love. Not a mean bone in her sweet body.

Lydia is truly a volunteer favorite. In her short time with us, we watched her trust grow right in front of our eyes. She can be shy as humans clearly let her down in the past. After being with us, she has not tried to escape when being leashed or walked because she knows she is safe and loved. While it is great to meet a dog and instantly see their demeanor and lovely personality, Lydia needs patience and a little time to get to know her FURever family. She is a ROCKSTAR, and she showed her sweet personality almost instantly once at the rescue but anyone meeting her needs to know she just needs to feel safe and she will -- a little patience, sprinkled with unconditional love = perfection.

A few words from Lydia the love bug/land seal herself: I am a shy girl, but I am all love once I know I am safe. I trust quickly but I ask for your patience. I am not opposed to a K9 sibling (as I have been non-reactive to K9's I have met at the rescue so far) but I would need to meet a potential sibling several times to be sure we are a good fit and that the transition goes well for both of us. Because I was found as a stray, the rescue doesn't know if I lived with other dogs prior to coming to the rescue. I also love walks, but I also thoroughly enjoy chilling with my humanz. I am sweet and I walk well on a leash. I am kind, loving, calm, well mannered, intentional, mindful, graceful, and very smart. I love learning new tricks and I love treats (I mean -- who doesn't). I will thrive in a home without children as their quick movements make me nervous.

If you are looking for a best friend, I am your girl. Let's rescue each other. All I want in this life is to love unconditionally and to receive the same. I have so much love to give!

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process encompasses several steps in an attempt to ensure the best possible placement of an animal with the most appropriate home. In addition to an application and time spent with the dog of interest, a home visit with the candidate is also a step in the adoption. We do charge an adoption fee as well as require the execution of an adoption agreement.

More about this rescue

Canine Rescue of Central PA, Inc. is a nonprofit 501c(3), all-volunteer organization dedicated to providing assistance to any dog in a helpless situation. While a young organization, we have made tremendous progress in establishing another valuable resource for our furry friends. It is our mission to get involved in as many situations as possible to provide sanctuary, shelter, and homes to as many dogs as we can. We also are very focused on creating strategic partnerships with other rescues and similar organizations in an attempt to share resources as well as expand public awareness of the overwhelming problem of homeless animals.
