My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Max / Neutered Male / 2 years / Northern Mixed Breed / 87lbs / Crate Trained: No / Dogs: Yes / Cats: Unknown / Kids: Yes
Max joined our rescue from a remote, fly-in only community in Northern Ontario, along the James Bay Coast. He was selflessly surrendered by his owner to give him a better life away from the reserve.
Max is such a sweet, gentle boy, and steals hearts wherever he goes. He currently is fostered with 3 other dogs and gets along great with all of them. It took him a bit to adjust to his life living south but Max is in a pretty good routine with his foster family now and we hope that can continue with his forever family. He has become quite comfortable in the house, and has done well with house training. He’s never far away from his foster mom, and is frequently instigating play time with the other resident dogs. He loves to go for walks and is getting better on leash. He loves to walk, sniff and explore. He’s been out in busy public settings with his foster mom and he has done great. Everyone stops to ask about him, I mean, who wouldn’t? He is so handsome. He is a super friendly boy with everyone, children included!
Max needs a large, fenced yard. He loves to be outdoors and is happy to find a snow bank, or a nice sunny spot in the yard and sleep the day away. Max’s preferred family would be someone who works from home or is home more often than not, and where he would be the second dog in the home. He really loves company, both human and dog. Max is not crate trained and has severe anxiety being in the crate, to the point that he hurts himself. His foster family sections off an area of the house for him when they need to leave and it has has been working. He sleeps quietly through the night on a dog bed in the fosters room.
A note from his foster family:
“Max is the best! He is so friendly and just loves to be loved on. He has this charm and everyone who meets him falls in love! We have been working on crate training but for safety he still cannot be left unsupervised in a crate. He’s come so far and adapted really well to his changed lifestyle. He looooves to spend time outdoors and will spend hours sun tanning. He loves going for walks in the neighbourhood and is non-reactive on leash. He is somewhat picky (surprisingly) when it comes to dog treats and seems to just love a basic dog biscuit. For training we have been using hotdogs as our high reward treat and he is very food motivated. We’ve had a lot of success with umbilical cord training in the home and he is quite happy and comfortable in our home now. His new family may have a bit of an adjustment period with him while he settles into his new environment but I promise he is worth it.”
Max is fully vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. He is being fostered in Cambridge, ON.
