My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

***Chopper is currently being fostered in the SF Bay Area. His Current foster is our TEMP EMERGENCY foster only and we are needing to move him this coming MONDAY (4/17/23)***

Our original plan was transferring him to another rescue but we are concerned he’s not going to do great in an outdoor kennel environment.

About Chopper:
*8-9 years old
* neutered and fully up to day on vaccines
* Sweet, friendly, but currently sad
* Noted to be dog friendly with proper introductions
* Knows basic commands, leash walking, kennel trained

What we need:
* a quiet home for Chopper to decompress
* A female dog could be ok but they will need to be kept separate at first
* Ideally a foster-to-adopt home so that he doesn’t have to keep moving
* Really hoping for within California because transport is difficult right now

Chopper's Back Story:

We were contacted last week by a man in California needing help rehoming his dog, Chopper. He said he was homeless and he and his dog had been living in his car for the last year. We could tell that he truly cared about his dog, but we are WAY over capacity on the West Coast, so we offered some resources but there was not much more we could do.

On Tuesday, we were contacted by the man’s friend who told us he had passed away over the weekend. He left a note behind saying to reach out to us to help with Chopper. We found out that Chopper was with him when the officers responded.
This has crushed our hearts so much. And we can’t imagine what Chopper is feeling or what he has witnessed.

Dogos are a wonderful breed but we urge anyone interested to dig in and do a lot of research before deciding if they are a good fit for your home. They require a lot of attention and training with them never ends! Boundaries must be enforced and they often need reminders as they push past boundaires you set! Dogos are loving, kind and gentle but don't mistake that for weakness because they are equally powerful and intense as well! Everyone in the home must be on board with having a Dogo and play a major role in their daily routines and training. Yes it is work, but the rewards are ten-fold! Lazy homes don't work for Dogos as they need stimulation, exercise, and lots of attention too during their younger years. Our goal in rescue is to be as transparent as we can about each and every dog plus make sure new families really understand the needs of a Dogo!
