My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Our website is updated daily

Onyx is spayed, UTD on vaccines and tested negative for FIV/FeLV. Approx. DOB is 6/1/2019.

  • Onyx must be adopted with another kitten/cat, or to a home with a young cat.
  • Experienced owner with veterinary references required
  • Local applicants (Phila. & surrounding suburbs) only
  • Please note, only applicants meeting these qualifications will be contacted.

Update November 2023: Onyx is currently on 5mg Prozac once a day because she will bully older cats, and she can spray when stressed. Likely, this is due to living with multiple cats and not getting as much human attention as she craves.

Onyx is direct-pilled, but she can be pilled in food. It is possible that, in time, she can be slowly weaned from the Prozac once she is in the right environment for her. Keep in mind that her behaviors may return, and she may need to stay on medication for the rest of her life.

Update April 2023: Onyx is a playful cat who loves attention.  She will seek you out to pick her up and carry her around.  She also loves to hang out and play with other active cats.  She enjoys laser pointers and catnip toys.  She is very vocal, especially at meal time.  Onyx can also be a lap cat on occasion, but that is on her terms.

Onyx has a mild head tilt as a result of a serious ear infection before her first birthday.   She also has some minor congestion at times, that seems to come and go with seasonal allergies.  She does not let this bother her or interfere with her daily activities.

Original bio: Onyx and her sister, Crystal, were rescued from an industrial park after a heavy rain. They were in free-standing water, under scrap metal--no place for one week old kittens. With no mom in sight, they were brought to NAR. These bottle babies have blossomed into beautiful kittens. Both are friendly, and social with cats and a large dog.

If interested in adopting Onyx, please fill out an application online at http://nar.rescuegroups.org.

More about this rescue

Northeast Animal Rescue is a local group in Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, dedicated to saving homeless, unwanted and abandoned cats and kittens. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that depends solely on donations which are tax deductible.

Our mission is to focus on having feral (wild) cats spayed and neutered to decrease overpopulation. We are very small and do not have a shelter but our cats and kittens are placed in foster homes. In the process of helping ferals, we come across cats and kittens who are friendly and placeable. These cats and kittens receive medical attention with the help of local veterinarians, and when ready, they are put up for adoption.

We also do some small animal adoptions.
