My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We’ve promised Phoenix a happily ever after. Can you give her one?

You see, she didn’t have the best start. She was found fending for herself in rough condition. She had a raging ear infection and severe case of mange, which had left her with significant hair loss. But most troubling, she could barely walk because all four paw pads had ulcerations most likely caused by urine scald. And don’t get us started on what someone did to her ears…

But despite the physical mistreatment she clearly endured, Phoenix is one of the most gentle souls we’ve met. She thinks everyone—human, feline, and canine—should be her newest best friend. Some people are afraid to pet her, which she doesn’t understand. So she just wiggles her butt wildly to show how friendly she is. And when she sees a kid? Forget it. Best day ever. Children are her favorite, no question.

She’s been through a lengthy recovery and is still receiving medicated baths for her skin. She also developed an elbow injury that requires an orthopedic bed in her crate. As you can imagine, she has some separation anxiety, most likely from being crated nonstop in her former life and then abandoned. And she’s still working on house training (getting close!).

But besides these little bumps that still need smoothing, she’s an amazing, loving, and loyal girl. She settles in the crate fairly quickly, and she walks politely on the leash. At her foster home, she’s quickly become a neighborhood favorite, because she always has a tail wag and kisses for everyone. She’s won a lot of hearts around here.

Phoenix would love to have a home with humans to love and maybe a dog friend (she adores other dogs). She does pretty well with cats too, although she thinks they should play with her. When a cat corrects her, she listens and backs off.

And as we said, kids are absolutely welcome. She’s still learning not to jump on people, but she’s been polite to the little humans she’s met.
