My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

diva / curious / cautious

We all need those warm and fuzzy moments even when we are feeling a bit grouchy. Think of Oscar the Grouch on Sesame Street, you just knew through his rough and gruff exterior was a sweet fella….well most of the time! This is a perfect description of Nimby; she isn’t green and prefers a soft cat bed to a trash can, but she has does have her moments.

Meet Nimby. She is a beautiful cat that will be celebrating her 5th birthday in a couple of months. Nimby has the biggest squad of supporters at Pet Refuge, she has been with us for almost 3 years. Sadly, her previous owner passed away and she has had a tough time adjusting to being a shelter cat. She can be described as sweet and beautiful, yet she is a spicy girl that follows her own path on her own time frame. She lives with another cat but is very cautious with people. Quickly she will give you a swat after luring you in for a pet if she doesn’t want to interact. She is treat motivated and loves to follow you and beg for treats. A quiet and calm home and a person that would allow her to settle in and interact at her own pace is what this lovely black and white feline is looking for. Just a little understanding that she has had a tough time in her few years, she misses her former owner and needs a new person that will let her blossom at her own pace. Interested in learning more about Nimby? Adopters or foster homes that understand the complex feline, we are looking for you! Visit her on Saturdays from 10-3 or Thursdays from 6-8.

Pet Refuge was formed in 1978 to help with cats and dogs in need of homes. We are a limited admission shelter that supports our local animals control facilities by helping take in the overflow of cats and dogs from their facilities. We also take in owner surrenders as space allows.

Pet Refuge is a volunteer based shelter, learn more about us on our website - petrefuge.com or send an email to webmaster@petrefuge.com or leave a message at 574-231-1122.

We are always recruiting new volunteers. Our volunteers work hard and also have family and jobs away from Pet Refuge, we ask for your patience in correspondence.
