This beautiful girl is roughly 9 years old, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and is looking to find her forever family. She not only brings fur-filled love, but she will serenade you with her magnificent malamute vocals. Kaya is all you need in a pet. She is fluffy, sweet, caring, silly, playful, independent, and she has so many other great attributes!
Kaya would prefer to live in a home with no other pets. She does have a strong prey drive for small animals, and was previously adopted into a home with other dogs. While she accepted the male dog, she had strong feelings about the female dog which led to her return. Due to this history, we believe Kaya would do best as a single pet while she adjusts to her new home. There is certainly a possibility that she can accept a new canine sibling later on!
Kaya brings our staff, volunteers, and visitors of all ages so much joy when they visit her here at HSoP. She’s never met a stranger, and is always pleased to greet new people! She is a huge fan of pets and treats, but an even bigger fan of snuggling with her people. While she might be a bit of a bed hog, she only wishes to be closer to you!
Kaya LOVES the outdoors, especially during the winter. She was made for the snow and cool weather! With her extra fluffy coat, she loves playing in the snow. Sometimes she is happier outside than she is inside during the winter.
Kaya does have pretty severe arthritis in her hips and hocks, but that certainly does not stop her from enjoying short outings and being active. Her arthritis is controlled with a twice daily anti-inflammatory medication and a once daily joint supplement. All food is good food, so she is great at taking her medications! HSoP will provide her new family with one month of her medications to ensure you have plenty of time to get her into your veterinarian to establish care.
Kaya is highly food motivated, sometimes to a fault. If she smells something intriguing, you can bet on her attempting to taste it too. In her previous adoptive home, she was known to check out what was on the counters, and even examine what was in the trash. While this might seem like a turn off, it is certainly something she can learn with some time and effort from her new family. You can most definitely teach this old dog new tricks!
While Kaya has been at HSoP for quite some time, it shouldn’t deter you from bringing her home! She certainly has her silly quirks, but who doesn’t?! She will need some extra time to adjust to life in a home, but HSoP offers a foster period with every adoption to help the adopters make sure it is a good fit. HSoP will provide resources for any concerns you may have in regards to offering Kaya a happy and healthy life.
Not sure about adoption? Ask our staff about alternatives to seeing if Kaya is a good fit for you! You can stop by anytime Monday-Saturday between 1:00-5:00pm to meet Kaya.

Additional adoption info
Adopters must live in a pet-friendly environment with proof from their landlord or rental agency. We contact the landlord or rental agency of each potential adopter to confirm the animal is being adopted into a welcoming space.
We require introductions between our available dogs and any other canines living in the household prior to adoption. This helps to ensure a good fit for the whole family before taking them home.
