Meet Heidi!
**GSD BREED EXPERIENCE REQUIRED**
Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Estimated DOB: 12/1/2020
Sex: Female - Spayed
Weight: 68 lbs
Things to know about Heidi:
- Originally rescued from Mississippi after being bounced around from home to home and before her owner could put her up for free online
- Due to her reactivity to new people, Heidi requires a confident and experienced adopter who understands her need for gradual introductions.
- Her protective nature, typical of German Shepherds, means she's often wary of strangers, especially in her own space.
- Significant progress has been made with her people reactivity, but ongoing work with a professional trainer or behaviorist is essential
- The Vet Behaviorist at Metropolitan Vet advises that Heidi's ideal home would be in a suburban or rural setting without young children, where her behaviors can be consistently managed.
- Heidi shines in a household where she can have a dog companion, benefiting from the company and interaction with other canines
- Once Heidi knows you, she is the absolute sweetest, most affectionate girl
- Once comfortable, Heidi reveals her incredibly sweet, affectionate side. She's a lovable girl with a big heart.
- She possesses a joyful, playful personality and loves to bond closely with her person
- Heidi is intelligent, food motivated, and eager to please, making her highly trainable.
- She already knows commands like sit, down, stay, heel, and more
- Her medium energy level is perfectly balanced - playful and young at heart, yet also content to relax and snuggle.
- Heidi enjoys outdoor activities, including walks, and is great at self-entertainment with toys and bones
- She's a pro in the car, (hops right in!) ready for any adventure that comes her way
- Fully housebroken
- Heidi is also crate trained, settling into her crate easily and quietly
- She's dog-friendly and currently lives harmoniously with multiple dogs of various ages and sizes
- Loves to play with any and all dogs; She rolls on the ground, tumbles and chases
- Heidi's playful nature extends to her interactions with cats, though she may try to engage them in play
- Her adopter should be ready to embrace her quirks and commit to continuing her training and socialization
