02/20/24 10:11 Last weeks SVPP Dog Day out Notes: Today I: Got to go on a later morning/afternoon walk! I am always so excited leaving the shelter - give me 2 mins to freak out and then it`s easy to get all my gear on! I practiced my training a lot and showed that I am a perfect sitter and I am the best at shaking a paw. We walked in the sunshine for almost 2 hours, then I played a bit with a ball in the field before heading to get a pup cup!
Three Words to Describe Me are:
Sweet, Smiley, Smart
Notes from My Walker:
Another awesome day hanging out with sweet Roo! She’s always easy to gear up, get into the car, and go on whatever adventure you have waiting for her.
Today we worked on more of her training on walks approaching other dogs on the trail: show Roo the treat upon approach, pull off to the side of the trail, and then “sit” while the other dog passes. Roo has gotten really good at this and we had no issues with this on our walk. We also practice “sit” on command while walking with a treat reward and she’s extremely responsive - perfect at this. Really proud of Roo! She’s doing so good with this and with consistency could be cured of her excitement of seeing other dogs while out in the world… Geese and squirrels may need some more work. Roo definitely has a strong prey drive, but I give her a lot of grace as she isn’t used to seeing wildlife in the shelter.
Outside of working with Roo on her training, she’s a perfect dog. All Roo wants to do is be by your side and wear the biggest smile doing it. She loves having a quiet nap in the car and I always make sure to play quiet music or none at all so she gets some time to experience a bit of a change from the loud, busy shelter environment. You’ll have no trouble taking her on car ride adventures.
It always amazes me how much of a bright, positive light she is for a dog who has overcome so much adversity by humans and has spent a year at the shelter. She has every reason to not trust people, but still greets every single person with a ginormous smile and some big loving licks.
Roo is more than ready for someone to give her a chance to not only change her life, but yours too! You’ll never have a bad day if you got Roo as your best friend!
