My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Roxi, the beloved long-term resident at the shelter (the longest resident) whose gentle nature and loving spirit have captured the hearts of everyone who crosses her path. At 7 years old, Roxi is a seasoned companion, wise beyond her years and overflowing with affection for those around her. Despite her time at the shelter, Roxi remains a beacon of love and warmth, cherished by both staff and volunteers alike. With her gentle demeanor and kind heart, she has a way of making everyone feel special, spreading joy and happiness. Roxi's car manners are nothing short of amazing. She rides in the car with grace and poise, her calm demeanor and relaxed attitude making her the perfect travel companion. Whether she's accompanying the volunteers on a short trip to the park or embarking on a grand adventure to a new destination, Roxi's serene presence makes every journey a pleasant and enjoyable experience for all involved. She's the epitome of the perfect canine companion, always eager to shower her loved ones with love and affection. Whether she's cuddled up on the couch for a cozy snuggle session or leaning in close for a gentle kiss, Roxi's love knows no bounds, and her presence brings warmth and comfort to all who have the privilege of knowing her. She's always up for exploring new sights and sounds, her tail wagging excitedly as she takes in the world around her. Whether she's sniffing out new scents on a leisurely stroll or bounding through the woods on a hike, Roxi's zest for life is truly infectious, inspiring joy and laughter in all who join her on her adventures.

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of Harford County, Inc., located in Fallston, Maryland, is a non-profit, open-admission animal support organization dedicated to providing shelter and care to the homeless, abandoned and abused animals of Harford County. We provide a safe and healthy temporary shelter and seek loving, permanent homes to ensure the long-term welfare of the animals we serve. Through education and advocacy, we promote the humane treatment of companion animals and work toward reducing, and ultimately eliminating, pet overpopulation in the county through low-cost spay and neuter programs.

We have welcomed more than 300,000 animals since 1946 and provide service to the community in conjunction with animal control to safeguard public health and safety. We strive to promote the special bond between humans and their companion pets in securing forever homes for our animals.

The Humane Society of Harford County serves nearly 4,000 animals each year. The animals include dogs, cats, ponies, birds, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, bearded dragons, lizards, snakes, spiders, iguanas, turtles, ducks, turkeys, chickens, goats and pigs, to name a few. The majority of the animals we receive are cats (and kittens) and dogs (and puppies).
