Why I need a new home

Behavioral issues

My story

Note: Due to his extreme leash reactivity and lack of socialization, please indicate in your application that you are willing to take on a dog with serious behavioral issues.

Pogo is a four year old Maltese mix and is happy as long as he's by your side. He lacked training when I adopted him from the shelter, but he's been working hard to learn the basics (work in progress). He's smart and treat-motivated, though he can be a bit stubborn.

Unfortunately, he was never properly socialized and has a high degree of leash reactivity towards other dogs (fear reaction, according to a trainer). This makes walks a challenge and precludes taking him out in public for most outings, though he doesn't react negatively to friendly dogs he knows. He's not known to bite.

As a first-time dog owner with my own health issues, he's become too much for me to manage. He has a lot of potential, and would do well with an experienced dog-owner to complete his training and help him to gain confidence.
