My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Once we know each other, I will surrender myself to you when you step up as my leader. I'm very gentle and affectionate, and my favorite thing to do is to give full-body hugs. A German Shepherd mix, I am approximately 2 years old, 62 lbs., spayed, and completely vetted. I also passed my cat test! TRLD trainers are teaching me obedience commands. They say I am very smart and pick things up quickly.

I was named in honor of a beloved mother in celebration of Mother's Day. Me and my two pups were living on the streets until we were rescued by Hope for Paws. I'm learning to trust again, but I will take some time to completely come out of my shell. Watch my rescue video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoPSBnD-J4U

'At our boarding facility, the Red Dog House, we affectionately call her our resident coyote, but she is anything but. I personally think she should be named Gisele, after the model. Gisella is tall, thin, and ready to show her stuff! An affectionate dog, she likes to be eye-to-eye when snuggling up to you, but she's gentle and won't push you over. One of our smartest pups, she would love a place to run and have fun with her humans!' -Kathie, boarding volunteer at the Red Dog HouseMay 2, 2024, 6:25 pm

Additional adoption info

All of our animals come fully vaccinated and spayed or neutered (if old enough), and microchipped. Puppies and kittens will be spayed/neutered and have all shots when they are old enough. There is an Adoption application, a quick phone interview to make sure it is a good fit, a meet and greet with the dog, then a home check, and an adoption contract. We ask for a $400 donation for adult dogs, and $500 for puppies at the time of adoption so that we can save other dogs from the shelter. The first step is to fill out an app here: https://thelittlereddog.org/adoption-form

More about this rescue

Dogs are man's best friend, but it is not always the other way around. The Little Red Dog was founded in memory of a little red American Pit Bull Terrier who did not make it. If you are familiar with the Michael Vick dog fighting case chronicled in The Lost Dogs: Michael Vick's Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption. The Little Red Dog was brutally beaten to death by Vick and his cronies because she didn't want to fight.

The Little Red Dog rescues dogs; red, blue, tan, white, brown, black and all colors in between. We do not discriminate against ANY breed; that's because we are a real rescue, and we will help as many animals as we can. Our primary goal is to get them into loving homes. Our hope that some day all of them make it, but most of all, we will never forget the Little Red Dog and many others who did not.
